Ukraine to receive EUR53 million CEF grant to implement 4 transport infrastructure projects

The EU grant will amount to approximately EUR 53 million. It is noted that since the CEF program features co-financing for project implementation in the amount of 50%, the Ukrainian side must provide a similar amount.

Among the projects that have been approved is the integration of Ukraine’s railway system into the EU transport system. The first stage involves improving the railway network and building a 1435 mm gauge to ensure technological compatibility and increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure.

Another project involves the organization of traffic flows to increase infrastructure capacity, safety, and efficiency of border crossing services on the common Romania-Moldova-Ukraine border crossing point Galati/Giurgiulesti/Reni. It was developed and presented jointly with Moldovan and Romanian colleagues. The implementation of the project will ensure the continuity of traffic between these checkpoints.

In addition, the project for the creation and implementation of a river information service on the Ukrainian part of the Danube River, including its integration into the EuRIS and CEERIS portals of the RIS COMEX project (ensuring the development of RIS from security management to logistics facilitation to make inland waterways easy to use and reliable in multimodal supply chains) was approved.

The fourth project envisages the restoration of Ukraine’s air navigation industry and the further modernization of the communication, navigation, surveillance, and aeronautical information infrastructure.

The relevant decision within the CEF program was made at a meeting of the Program Steering Committee on July 16, 2024.
