The United States of America is the largest military donor to Ukraine in the war with russia. Since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion in February 2022, the United States has provided the largest military assistance to Ukraine among all international partners. This support covers a wide range of assistance, including: weapons and military equipment, financial support for the military sector, training and education of the military, information support and intelligence, as well as humanitarian and grant assistance.
In total, since the beginning of the russian invasion, the USA has provided Kyiv with $175 billion worth of aid and weapons. The systems transferred include Javelin anti-tank systems, Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems, artillery systems, armoured vehicles (including Bradley armoured personnel carriers), tanks (M1 Abrams), and air defence systems such as NASAMS and Patriot. Ukraine has received about 70 military support packages.
The USA continues to work with 50 allies and partners through the Ukraine Defence Contact Group and the Ukraine Support Coalition “to meet Ukraine’s immediate needs on the battlefield and defend against russian aggression “. The United States continues to impose tough economic sanctions on russia. These sanctions restrict access to international markets for russian companies and banks, limit the supply of high-tech goods to russia, and freeze the assets of russian oligarchs and officials.
The USA also provides significant financial assistance to stabilise the economy of Ukraine and support vital industries. This includes loans, grants, budgetary support, and funding for infrastructure reconstruction. At the same time, the United States provides funds for humanitarian assistance, including food, medical supplies, shelter, and support for refugees both in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries.
On 24 April, the USA announced a $1bn aid package. It included air defence systems, artillery ammunition, armoured vehicles and anti-tank weapons. And on 26 April, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin announced the allocation of $6 billion for the production of new weapons for Ukraine by US companies.
On 10 May this year, the US announced another $400 million package. The aid included Patriot and NASAMS missiles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, additional HIMARS systems, armoured personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, and more. On 24 May, the US announced another $275 million in military aid to Ukraine.
In October 2024, Washington announced a $425 million package of additional security assistance to Ukraine, which included air defence equipment, air-to-ground weapons, ammunition for rocket systems and artillery, armoured vehicles, and anti-tank weapons under Presidential Decision Authority (PDA).
The United States continues to train the Ukrainian military, helping to increase their combat readiness and effectiveness. American instructors are training the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially in the use of the latest weapons systems and combat tactics. They also provide training in the use of sophisticated technical systems, such as air defence systems and modern artillery.
The United States also provides Ukraine with important intelligence information that helps to effectively coordinate combat operations, track the movement of enemy troops and plan operations.
The USA will allocate $35 million in 2025 as part of international support for humanitarian demining in Ukraine. The US company Tetra Tech will provide Ukraine with assistance in the form of specialised demining equipment, personal protective equipment and training for demining specialists.
The United States supports Ukraine through various grant programmes aimed at developing its economy, democracy, human rights, education, culture and civil society. Here are some of the key grant programmes that operate in Ukraine:
Programmes from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Since the beginning of the war, $2.8 billion has been allocated for humanitarian aid, $3.4 billion in development assistance and $26.8 billion in direct budget support. USAID supports projects aimed at developing small and medium-sized businesses, the agricultural sector, the IT industry, energy independence and other key sectors:
Small Grants for Democracy Programme from the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA: this programme funds projects that promote human rights, civil society, independent media and legal education.
The United States remains an important trade and investment partner of Dnipropetrovsk region. The high level of partnerships is evidenced by the bilateral analysis of foreign activity. The country ranks 9th among exporters from Dnipropetrovsk region and 6th in imports of goods among the countries of the world.
According to the results of 2023, the volume of exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region decreased by 42% ($167.2 million) due to the military aggression of the russian federation, which accounted for 3.6% of the total volume of exports of goods from the region. Among the goods that are in greatest demand among American consumers are ferrous metals and products made of them, parts for railway locomotives, machinery and equipment, etc.
Export operations were carried out by 76 companies from Dnipropetrovsk region.
The main exporting companies are enterprises of the metallurgical complex, processing industry and machine-building enterprises.

Imports of goods from the United States to Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $178.5 million (4.1% of total imports of goods from the region) and decreased by 7.8% compared to 2021. Traditionally, Dnipropetrovsk region purchased oil and oil products, plastics and polymeric materials, land transport, machinery and equipment, etc.
Import operations were carried out by 321 importers.
