The key drivers of agricultural processing in Ukraine are the oil and fat industry and the sugar sector.
According to Volodymyr Rossoha, Doctor of Economics and Chief Researcher at the Department of Agricultural Production Economics at the National Scientific Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics,” in an interview with Kommersant Ukrainian.
“Ukraine is one of the global leaders in sunflower oil production. At the same time, domestic processing plants are currently operating at up to 65% capacity,” he noted.
He added that the largest sunflower oil producer in Ukraine is Kernel, which holds 27–28% of the market and produces up to 1.6 million tonnes of oil annually. The company also exports approximately 8% of the global volume of sunflower oil.
“Among the top three sunflower processors in Ukraine is Creative Group, with a market share of nearly 10%, operating nine processing plants and exporting nearly 70% of its output. The other two are Astarta/Globyno and Krasnohirskyi Oil Plant,” Rossoha specified.
He emphasized that during the 2023/24 marketing year, Ukraine produced 6.6 million tonnes of sunflower oil, of which 6.2 million tonnes were exported.
