Although the country does not officially provide lethal weapons its contribution in the form of humanitarian, medical and technical support is substantial and consistent. Official Jerusalem has organized “air and land bridges” to deliver humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, medical equipment and water purification systems. Most of the cargo arrives by plane to countries neighbouring Ukraine. These deliveries are coordinated with the Ukrainian side and are directed primarily to the affected regions. More than 5,000 Ukrainian specialists have been trained in Israel to provi de psychological assistance — in particular, methods of working with trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and crisis situations. The first groups — about 27 mental health specialists (doctors, psychologists) — have completed five-day courses at the Israeli NATAL center and are sharing this experience with colleagues in Ukraine. As part of the program to create “resilience centers” Ukraine plans to establish about 20 institutions based on the Israeli model. They will become centers of comprehensive psychological and social support for citizens, veterans and displaced persons.
The training also includes specialists from the National Police of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine to strengthen their ability to work with traumatized people in wartime conditions.
Aid is also constantly arriving from Israeli citizens themselves. From the very first days of the full-scale invasion they have been actively gathering humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Israeli non-governmental organizations, particularly those involved in rehabilitation, are still actively cooperating with Ukrainian ministries and local authorities.
