Oschadbank raises EUR 50 million to modernise the energy system

Oschadbank has raised a new tranche of EUR 50 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development under the guarantee instrument of the EBRD’s Energy Security and Stability Facility (ESSF). The agreement on the second tranche was signed by the banks, according to the financial institution’s press service.

The funds received will allow Oschadbank to continue lending to projects related to energy generation and energy efficiency improvements in Ukraine.

The ESSF financial instrument provides for partial coverage by the EBRD of risks on Oschadbank’s investment loans, with the guarantee covering exactly half (50%) of the respective loan amount. The programme itself is implemented with the financial support of the European Union, France and the Netherlands, and its main objective is to provide Ukrainian businesses, local communities and other clients of the bank with access to financing for projects aimed at strengthening the country’s energy resilience.

The parties began their partnership on 12 February 2025, when they concluded an agreement on Oschadbank’s participation in the ESSF programme, and the first tranche under this initiative has already been successfully used to finance energy projects.

Overall, the ESSF programme is focused on supporting investment in Ukrainian energy generation and energy efficiency through a credit risk-sharing mechanism between the EBRD and partner banks, which allows the latter to significantly increase financing for projects critical to energy stability.
