Between January and August 2026, 782,000 tonnes of flat-rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 7% more than in the same period of 2025.
Over 50% of imports consist of coated flat-rolled products (HS Code 7210) — 412,000 tonnes, which is 14% higher year-on-year. The main suppliers of these products during the period in question were Turkey (225,000 tonnes), Vietnam (46,000 tonnes) and Poland (31,000 tonnes).
A further 28% of imports, or 222,000 tonnes (-2% year-on-year), consisted of flat hot-rolled steel (HS Code 7208). The main source of these imports was Turkey, accounting for 157,000 tonnes. Imports from China totalled 47,000 tonnes, and from Italy — 3,000 tonnes.
During the same period, 84,000 tonnes of flat cold-rolled steel (HS Code 7209) were imported, an increase of 18% year-on-year. Imports from Turkey totalled 56,000 tonnes, from Slovakia 30,000 tonnes, and from China 25,000 tonnes.
In August, Ukrainian consumers imported 75,000 tonnes of flat steel, which is 47% less than in the previous month and 14% less than in August 2025. Supplies of coated flat steel totalled 44,000 tonnes (-45% month-on-month; -15% year-on-year), hot-rolled flat steel at 12,000 tonnes (-70% month-on-month; -28% year-on-year), and cold-rolled flat steel at 11,000 tonnes (-14% month-on-month; -2% year-on-year).
Expenditure on flat steel imports for the period January–August rose by 3% year-on-year – to $777 million, whilst in August it fell by 32% month-on-month but rose by 2% year-on-year – to $91 million.
It should be noted that, in 2025, 1.09 million tonnes of flat-rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which was 10.7% higher than in 2024. Approximately 50% of imports consisted of coated flat steel products — 532.8 thousand tonnes, up 13.7% year-on-year. A further 31.6% of shipments, or 344.28 thousand tonnes (+0.9% year-on-year), consisted of hot-rolled flat steel products. Expenditure on flat steel imports for the year as a whole rose by 4.9% year-on-year, to $1.13 billion.
