Dnipropetrovsk region ranks first among the regions of Ukraine in terms of goods’ export and import

Export of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to the world’s countries in the 1st half of 2020 amounted to $3.7 billion (16.1% out of Ukraine’s export volume). Export of goods exceeded imports by 43%. The trade surplus amounted to $1577.1 million, which is 6% more compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The largest share (93.5%) in the export of goods belongs to industrial products. The region exported more than a quarter of Ukraine’s industrial products worth $3458 mln. The largest share of exports was made up of ferrous metals and products thereof 49.9% ($1845.6 mln), as well as ores and slag 32.8% ($1213 mln). It should be noted that the share of these products in Ukrainian export amounted to 40.6% and 62.1%, respectively.

Agricultural and food industry products with a share of 5.9% were exported in the amount of $217.9 mln. At the same time, construction products (0.6%) worth $20.9 mln.

The export volumes of certain products types have significantly increased, some of which are not traditional for the region:

  • natural honey by 5.2 times ($5.6 mln)
  • untreated skins, tanned leather by 2.6 times ($2.2 mln)
  • cotton wool by 2.3 times ($1.1 mln)
  • railway locomotives by 25% ($169.2 mln)
  • meat and edible byproducts by 35.5% ($10.8 mln)
  • glass products by 32% ($13.4 mln)

China became the leader among consumers of Ukrainian goods.  Exports to this country have doubled compared to the first half of 2019 and amounted to $887.4 mln. Poland took the second place among the world consumers of the region’s products. Exports to this country decreased by 31.3% compared to the corresponding period of last year, but still occupies a leading position. Export amounted to $250.2 mln. Turkey ranks third among the world consumers of the region’s products. Exports also decreased by 6.8% and amounted to $206.5 mln.

The volume of goods exports to the following countries has significantly increased: Qatar (by 6 times), Colombia, Belgium and Bulgaria (by 3 times), Denmark, Canada and Saudi Arabia (by 2 times).

 

Import of goods from the world’s countries in the 1st half of 2020 amounted to $2.1 bln (8.8% out of Ukraine’s imports).

The largest share (86.1%) in the goods import is occupied by industrial products in the amount of $1824.8 mln.

Agricultural and food industry products with a share of 11.7% were imported in the amount of $248.4 mln. While construction products (2.2%) worth $ 46.4 mln

Compared to the corresponding period of last year, the volumes of imports, primarily of goods from the processing industry, increased significantly, in particular:

  • milk and dairy products by 2 times ($24.6 mln)
  • textile clothing by 2.8 times ($6.7 mln)
  • finished grain products by 80% ($19.2 mln)
  • residues and waste from the food industry by 72% ($8.3 mln)
  • electric cars by 35% ($464.7 mln).

Among the countries of the world, which products were most imported by the Dnipropetrovsk region, China is leading with negative dynamics (decrease by 3.5%) with a volume of $396.4 mln. The second place was taken by the Russian Federation, the import of goods from which decreased by 50% compared to the corresponding period of 2019 and amounted to $352.5 mln. In third place is Germany. Imports amounted to $138.7 mln and decreased by 23.8% compared to the corresponding period.

Import from the following countries more than doubled: Colombia (by 12 times), Dominican Republic and Estonia (by 5 times), Peru and Tunisia (by 3 times), Kenya, Latvia and Moldova (by 2 times).

Foreign trade operations were carried out with partners from 160 countries of the world.
