President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi is on a working visit to the United States of America. Considering the priority of the American market and the prospects of the partnership, DIA analyzed the foreign economic relations of Dnipropetrovsk region with the United States over the past year.

The foreign trade turnover of goods between Dnipropetrovsk region and the USA in 2020 amounted to $373.7 mln (9.5% of the total volume of Ukraine). The positive balance amounted to $11.6 mln.

Exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to the USA amounted to $192.7 mln (19.6% of Ukraine’s exports) and decreased by 38.6% compared to the previous year.

Almost 75% of total exports are ferrous metals and articles thereof, which exports amounted to $143.8 mln. Also in demand among American entrepreneurs’ aircraft, exports amounted to $18.8 mln (9.8%). The region increased its ore and slag exports by 24.6 thous times, increasing exports to $9.5 mln (4.9% of the region’s total exports).

Exports of the following types of products increased significantly:

• organic chemical compounds by 25.7 times – $53 thous;
• copper and its products by 9.6 times – $8.2 mln;
• aluminum and its products almost by 8 times – $42 thous;
• wood and wood products by 6 times – $82.7 thous;
• fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin by 2.2 times – $77.6 thousd.

In 2020, 92 enterprises from Dnipropetrovsk region carried out export operations in the USA, the largest of which were: PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”, LLC “INTERPIPE Ukraine”, SE “VO PMZ na. O.M. Makarova ”, PJSC “Dnipro Metallurgical Plant ”, PJSC“ Centravis Production Ukraine ”.

Imports of goods from the United States in 2020 amounted to $181.1 mln (6.1% of Ukraine’s imports) and decreased by 19% compared to last year.

Domestic entrepreneurs are most interested in American mineral fuel, which imports amounted to $48.7 mln (26.9% of the region’s total imports). Also, the region bought land vehicles, the import of which decreased by 12.3% compared to last year and amounted to $44.5 mln. Machinery and equipment were bought by local entrepreneurs for $35.7 mln.

Compared to the last year, imports increased significantly, in particular:

• wood mass by 3,4 thous times – $238.2 thous;
• printed products by 7 times – $8.4 thous;
• hats by 8 times – $5.9 thous;
• nickel and its products by 3 times – $71.9 thous;
• products of inorganic chemistry by 4 times – $145.7 thous.

377 companies in the region bought American products. The TOP 5 companies of importers are: PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”, LLC “AGROTEK”, LLC TD “AGROALYANS”, LLC “NFM Agro”, LLC “BADM”.

There are 42 enterprises with American investments in Dnipropetrovsk region, including LLC NVP “LVS” – furniture production, LLC “ICC HOLDING” – oil production, LLC “ITREZZO DEVELOPMENT Ukraine” – computer programming and others. As of January 1, 2021, $5.1 mln of foreign direct investments from the United States have been invested in the region.
