Dnipropetrovsk region ranks first among the regions of Ukraine in terms of goods’ export and import

Export of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to the world’s countries for 9 months of 2020 amounted to $5.5 bln (15.9% out of Ukraine’s export volume). Export of goods exceeded imports by 40%. The trade surplus amounted to $2260.7 mln.

The largest share (93.4%) in the export of goods belongs to industrial products. The region exported more than a quarter of Ukraine’s industrial products worth $5194.97 mln. The largest share of exports was made up of ferrous metals and products thereof 47.1% ($2621.5 mln), as well as ores and slag 35.2% ($1959.3 mln). It should be noted that the share of these products in Ukrainian export amounted to 39% and 64.4%, respectively.

Agricultural and food industry products with a share of 5.9% were exported in the amount of $330.8 mln. At the same time, construction products (0.6%) worth $34.5 mln.

The export volumes of certain products types have significantly increased, some of which are not traditional for the region:

  • natural honey by 2 times ($6.4 mln)
  • tea and coffee by 4 times ($55.8 thousand);
  • untreated skins, tanned leather by 2.3 times ($2.4 mln)
  • cotton wool by 3 times ($ 2.3 mln)
  • soap, organic surfactants by 2.2 times ($8.1 mln);
  • aluminum and its products almost by 2 times ($968.5 thousand);
  • glass products by 42% ($21.5 mln)

It should be noted that exports decreased significantly of such types of goods:

  • footwear – export decreased by 94% ($41.1 thousand);
  • tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes – by 92% ($176 thousand);
  • cotton – by 68% ($7.1 thousand);
  • vegetables – by 70% ($691.1 thousand);
  • organic chemical compounds – by 65% ($747.9 thousand).

China became the leader among consumers of Ukrainian goods. Exports to this country have doubled compared to the same period of 2019 and amounted to $1579.6 mln. Poland took the second place among the world consumers of the region’s products. Exports to this country decreased by 25% compared to the corresponding period of last year, but still occupies a leading position and amounted to $378.6 mln. Russian Federation ranks third among the world consumers of the region’s products. Exports also decreased by 25.4% and amounted to $294.6 mln.

The volume of goods exports to the following countries has significantly increased: Qatar (by 5 times), Belgium, Bulgaria and Peru (by 2 times).

Import of goods from the world’s countries for 9 months of 2020 amounted $3.3 bln (8.7% out of Ukraine’s imports).

The largest share (86.6%) in the goods import is occupied by industrial products in the amount of $2856.6  mln.

Agricultural and food industry products with a share of 11.1% were imported in the amount of $367,4 mln. While construction products (2.3%) worth $75.6 mln

Compared to the corresponding period of last year, the volumes of imports, primarily of goods from the processing industry, increased significantly, in particular:

  • milk and dairy products by 2 times ($37.2 mln)
  • edible fruits and nuts by 2 times ($13.4 mln)
  • finished grain products by 55% ($27.4 mln)
  • tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes – by 2.5 times ($8.2 mln);

Among the countries of the world, which products were most imported by the Dnipropetrovsk region, China is leading with negative dynamics (decrease by 10%) with a volume of $646.9  mln. The second place was taken by the Russian Federation, the import of goods from which decreased by 43.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2019 and amounted to $542 mln. In third place is Germany. Imports amounted to $218.2 mln and decreased by 19.8% compared to the corresponding period.

Import from the following countries more than doubled: Senegal (by 5 times), Peru (by 3 times), Tunisia and Nigeria (by 2 times).

Foreign trade operations were carried out with partners from 165 countries of the world.
