Dnipropetrovsk region took the first place among the regions of Ukraine by the level of foreign direct investments

The volume of foreign direct investments attracted to the economy of Dnipropetrovsk region (cumulative total) by 01.07.2019 is $ 3617 mln (10.7% of the total Ukrainian indicator), according to this indicator the region ranks first among the regions of the country. 87.5% of the total amount of inflows or $ 3165.9 mln was invested from the EU countries.

Foreign direct investment in the region’s economy in January-June 2019 amounted to $17.3 mln, of which $16.8 mln (97.1% of the total volume) was received from EU countries and $ 0.5 mln from other countries.

Main investor countries are:

  • Cyprus – $ 1,489 mln (41.2% of the total direct investments volume of the region). The main areas of investment: mining and processing industry, real estate operations, wholesale and retail trade, transport;
  • The Netherlands – $ 756 mln (20.9%). Areas of investment: extractive industry, transport;
  • Germany – $ 613.1 mln (17%). Areas of investment: processing industry, wholesale and retail trade, transport;
  • Virgin Islands (Brit.) – $ 202.8 mln (5.6%). Areas of investment: processing industry, wholesale and retail trade, real estate operations, professional, scientific and technical activity and agriculture;
  • Austria – $ 106.3 mln (3%). Areas of investment: wholesale and retail trade, operations with real estate, activities in the field of administrative and auxiliary services.
  • Other countries – $ 449.8 mln (12.4%).

By type of economic activity, the largest amount of direct investment is directed to industry $ 2232.1 mln (61.7% of the total volume), which is almost 20% of the total Ukrainian figure. Services are occupied the second place in the volume of investments – $ 1329.8 mln (36.8%). Almost at the same level are investments in the field of agriculture and construction amounted to $ 23 mln (0.6%) and $ 32 mln (0.9%) respectively.

Investments in the region’s economy came from 59 countries.

As of July 1, 2019, the volume of direct investments (equity capital) from the region in the world’s economies amounted to $ 19 mln.
