Exports of goods to the world’s countries from Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 60.2%

The foreign trade turnover of goods in the first half of 2021 amounted to $8.5 bln (13.9% of the total volume of Ukraine), which increased by 46.6% compared to the first half of 2020. The positive balance has doubled compared to the previous period, amounting to $3358.6 mln. The export coverage ratio was 2.3 (in 2020 – 1.7).

Almost 20% of Ukraine’s exports are provided by Dnipropetrovsk region, which exports amounted to $5936.6 mln and increased by 60.2% compared to the first half of 2020. This is the first indicator among the regions of Ukraine.

The largest share (93.4%) in exports of goods is industrial products. The region exported almost 30% of Ukraine’s industrial output worth $5,547.6 mln. The largest share of exports was ferrous metals and their products 42.9% ($2549.2 mln), as well as ore, slag 44% ($2611.3 mln). It should be noted that exports of ore and slag increased more than 2 times compared to the same period last year and the share of exports of Ukraine amounted to 65%.

Products of agro-industrial complex and food industry with a share of 6.1% were exported in the amount of $364 mln. At the same time, construction products (0.4%) in the amount of $25 mln.

Exports of the following products increased significantly:

  • plant products twice ($636.8 mln);
  • fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin almost by 2 times ($245.2 mln);
  • pharmaceutical products by 2.7 times ($637.4 thousd);
  • shoes, hats, umbrellas by 2.2 times ($52.2 thousd);
  • mineral fuels by 2 times ($51 mln).

China became the leader among consumers of Ukrainian goods. Exports to this country increased almost by 2 times compared to the first half of 2020 and amounted to $1650.9 mln, which is 27.8% of total exports from the region.

Poland took the second place among the world consumers of the region’s products. Exports to the country increased by 72.3% compared to the same period last year. Exports amounted to $431.4 mln. Turkey ranks third among world consumers in the region, exports to which increased by 54% in the first half of 2020. Exports amounted to $322.2 mln.

Exports of goods to Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Colombia, Peru, and France increased significantly.

Imports of goods from the world’s countries in the first half of 2021 amounted to $2578 mln (8.2% of Ukraine’s imports) and increased compared to the previous period by 21.7%.

The largest share (86.2%) in imports of goods is occupied by industrial products worth $2221.6 mln.

Products of agro-industrial complex and food industry with a share of 11.9% were imported in amount of $306.1 mln, while construction products (1.9%) – in the amount of $50.2 mln.

Compared to the same period last year, imports increased significantly, in particular:

  • fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin by almost 2 times ($43.3 mln);
  • wood and wood products by 1.5 times ($8.9 mln);
  • natural or cultured pearls, precious and semi-precious stones by almost 8 times ($5.6 mln);
  • shoes, hats, umbrellas by 1.5 times ($6.1 mln).

Among the countries of the world which products were most bought by Dnipropetrovsk region, China leads with positive dynamics (increase by 33.3%) with $531.8 mln. The second place is occupied by Russia, which imports of goods increased by 28.4% and amounted to $451, 8 mln. Germany is in third place. Imports amounted to $185.7 mln and increased by 32.4% compared to the corresponding period of 2020.

Imports from Egypt, Indonesia, Qatar, Kenya and Romania were more than doubled.

Foreign trade operations were conducted with partners from 160 countries.
