Foreign trade of Dnipropetrovsk region in the services sector for 9 months of 2019

Foreign trade turnover of services with the countries of the world for 9 months of 2019 amounted to $277.8 mln. Negative trade balance was $87.8 mln and increased by $25.3 million compared to the same period of 2018.

Exports in the services sector from Dnipropetrovsk region to the countries of the world for the first 9 months of this year amounted to $95 mln (1.1% of the export volume of Ukraine) and decreased by 3.7% compared to the same period of the last year.

The largest share (40%) in the export of services is occupied by the IT sector – $38.3 mln, exports increased by 11.3% compared to the corresponding period of the last year. Transport services are in the second place (27.7%), but exports decreased by 28% and amounted to $26.3 mln (more than half of the transport services account for $13.4 mln in rail services and about $9 for road transport services, 8 mln). The third place in the structure of exports is occupied by business services – $12.3 mln (19%). The export of travel services increased by almost 30% compared to the corresponding period of 2018 and amounted to $7.3 mln (7.7% of the total volume of services).

For 9 months of 2019, the services exports volume increased significantly:

  • Maritime transport services – by 3.6 times and amounted to $569.7 thous;
  • Financial services – by 8 times and amounted to $3.2 mln;
  • Construction services – by 3.5 times and amounted to $723.5 thous;
  • Royalties and intellectual property services – almost be 3 times and amounted to $560 thous;
  • Professional and consulting services – almost doubled and amounted to $3.3 mln.

The USA is a leader among consumers of Ukrainian services. Exports to this country increased by 25% compared to the corresponding period of 2018 and amounted to $21.7 mln. The Russian Federation ranks the second among the world consumers of the region’s services, whose exports decreased by 54.5% compared to the corresponding period last year and amounted to $10.2 million. The Republic of Cyprus is the third largest consumer of services, the export of which amounted to $8.1 mln and also decreased by 12.4% compared to the corresponding period of 2018.

Exports of services from Dnipropetrovsk region increased significantly to the following countries:

  • Romania – by 12.6 times and amounted to $301.4 thous;
  • Estonia – by 3,4 times and made up $1,4 mln;
  • Israel – almost by 3 times and amounted to $1.8 mln;
  • Georgia – more than 3 times and amounted to $139.7 thous.

Exports of services from Dnipropetrovsk region decreased significantly to the following countries:

  • UAE – by 60.4% and amounted to $318.5 thous;
  • Estonia – by 60.2% and amounted to $421.1 thous;
  • China – by 57% and amounted to $538.2 thous;
  • India – by 52% and amounted to $2.2 mln.

Import of services in Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 13.4%, compared to the corresponding period of the last year and amounted to $182.8 million, which was 3.9% of the all-Ukrainian indicator.

Royalties and intellectual property services accounted for the largest import in the services sector 38.7%; the import of these services increased by 12.2% compared to the previous year and amounted to $70.8 mln. The second place in the structure of import is occupied by business services – $51.3 mln (28%). It should be noted that the import of these services increased by 26.4%. Import of transport services decreased by 27.7%, compared to the same period of the last year and amounted to $23.6 mln (12.9%).

Most of the services were imported from the USA –  $32.2 mln, compared to the same period last year, it increased by more than 4.5 times. The Republic of Cyprus is occupied the second place by the import of services – $23 mln, with an increase of almost 50% compared to the corresponding period of 2018. Import of services from Germany decreased by 6.6% and amounted to $10.9 mln – this is the third place.

Import of services to Dnipropetrovsk region increased significantly from the following countries:

  • Finland – by almost 10 times and amounted to $421.4 thous;
  • The Czech Republic – by 6.4 times and amounted to $5.2 mln;
  • Romania –by 5 times and amounted to $2.3 mln;
  • Latvia – by 2.5 times and amounted to $5.5 mln.

Imports of services to the region decreased significantly from the following countries:

  • Israel – by 80.6% and amounted to $419.4 thous;
  • Austria – by 71% and amounted to $1.2 mln;
  • Denmark – by 60.2% and amounted to $1.5 mln;
  • Turkey – by almost 60% and amounted to $221.9 thous.

Foreign trade operations of Dnipropetrovsk region enterprises in the service sector were carried out with partners from 129 countries.
