International Summit of Cities and Regions

The International Summit of Cities and Regions was held in Ukraine. The event was held on the initiative of the Congress of local and regional authorities under the President of Ukraine.

The summit brought together 120 heads of communities and regions from various partner countries of Ukraine, representatives of the EU Committee of Regions, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the National Association of Municipalities of Denmark for the sake of partnership and establishing direct contacts between Ukrainian and foreign communities. Within the framework of the Summit, the reintegration of Ukrainian territories, overcoming humanitarian challenges, and restoring the life of communities were discussed.

Regional offices of international cooperation were presented as part of the International Summit. They will become a key window for partners who are interested in cooperating at any level: oblasts, cities, villages and towns, or at the national level. They will ensure the coordination of international aid directly at the level of communities, which corresponds to the principle of decentralization. Such offices are planned to be opened primarily in the de-occupied regions of Ukraine. They will become a space for joint efforts. It will strengthen opportunities and trust between our communities, will allow us to overcome the challenges of war together.

During the Summit, the leadership of the Dnipropetrovsk region met with partners from the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Ile-de-France region, and Upper Silesia. During the meeting, interregional cooperation and humanitarian support were discussed, as well as strengthening of economic and cultural ties.

It is important for Dnipropetrovsk region to consolidate existing agreements, such as the one with the land of North Rhine-Westphalia. They are also open for laying new ones. Everything to defend the common ideals of freedom and peace together with the civilized world.
