New level of economic relations of Dnipropetrovsk region and Austria

On October 18, Valentyna Zatyshniak, director of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Investment Agency, and Mykola Lukashuk, Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, met with Arad Benkö, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Ukraine. Mr Benkö’s day began with meetings during the rocket attacks on Obukhivka and ended with the sound of sirens and a shelling of Pavlohrad.

The discussions included the reconstruction of Dnipropetrovsk region and cooperation between representatives of Dnipropetrovsk and Austrian businesses. Austria is very attentively observing how our partnership with the Czech Republic is developing. And it also wants to be a powerful partner of Dnipropetrovsk region.

We presented our region to Mr Benko. The economic potential of Dnipropetrovsk region and the structure of the economy take leading positions in Ukraine in terms of GDP (11%), industry (16%) and the financial sector, investment attraction and foreign trade.

The current level of economic relations between Dnipropetrovsk region and Austria indicates a significant potential for growth in both investment and foreign trade.

Ukraine is a significant market for Austrian companies: as of the beginning of 2023, about EUR 1.62 billion had been invested in the country.

As for Dnipropetrovsk region, 30 Austrian companies operate in the region, mostly in the service and industrial sectors. Austrian investments in our region totalled $38.4 million.

Austria is transitioning away from coal-based energy, while supporting the use of renewable energy sources and the European Green New Deal. This is a great example of the path to a healthier, cleaner and more sustainable society. Dnipropetrovsk region is interested in gaining Austrian experience.

In addition, there are more than 20 enterprises in Dnipropetrovsk region that use biomass as a fuel, with a total installed capacity of 85 MW. However, the region’s energy potential in the field of bioenergy is 1800 MW, which opens up opportunities for Austrian companies to implement relevant projects with agricultural enterprises in the region.

 The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation also remains an important priority for both countries. The analysis of export and import operations of Dnipropetrovsk region with Austria demonstrates a high level of partnership, as this country is an important commercial partner of the region.
