The Parliament has extended the list of renewable energy sources

Ukraine has to comply with the obligations of adaptation of national legislation to the legislation of the Energy Community, to increase the proportion of energy produced from renewable sources and to develop alternative sources of energy. This was stated by Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister − Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine, presenting in the Parliament the draft law “On amendments to the Law “On alternative energy sources” (reg. 4555-1), which was passed.

According to him, it is proposed to clarify the meaning of “renewable energy”, adding to the list of such types of energy as hydrothermal and aerothermal and to determine that the heat energy generated by heat pumps from hydrothermal, aerothermal or geothermal energy is the one that is produced from renewable energy sources.

“Ukraine signed the Paris Climate Agreement. It has undertaken serious obligations to reduce the consumption of energy resources and use of renewable sources of energy. We give a route map to our consumers how to move to extend the list of types of renewable energy that can be used to reduce gas consumption. In addition, it is a direct movement towards the energy independence of the country”, − Hennadii Zubko said.

For information:

According to Article 2 of the European Parliament and Council Directive 2009/28/UN on the promotion of usage of energy produced from renewable sources, “energy produced from renewable sources” means energy produced from non-fossil renewable energy sources such as: wind, solar, aerothermal, geothermal, hydrothermal, marine and hydro-electric, biomass, gas from waste disposal, gas from wastewater treatment plants and biogas.
