Poland supports Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO, and will make efforts to obtain Ukraine’s candidate status for EU membership this June. This is enshrined in the joint statement of the governments of Ukraine and Poland, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said during a briefing with the Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki on June 1.
Following the intergovernmental consultations in Kyiv, the parties signed a number of bilateral documents. Among them is the Joint Declaration between the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy of Poland and the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
“Poland will help develop Ukrainian communities as an integral part of the recovery plan. We will benefit from Poland’s experience in implementing European practices and effective use of European funds on the path to full EU membership, “said Denys Shmyhal.
A Joint Declaration of the Ministers of the Interior of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine on maximum cooperation at the level of border services and a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministries of Energy of Ukraine and Poland to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector were also signed.
“Poland supports Ukraine’s integration into European energy projects, development of the gas and electricity market in Ukraine. In addition, our countries agreed on the need to increase cross-border electricity trade and restore the Khmelnytsky NPP-Rzeszow transmission line. This is an extremely important project for Ukraine, which will open additional opportunities for the export of Ukrainian electricity to Europe, “said the head of the Ukrainian Government.
Among other things, the parties signed a Memorandum on the establishment of a joint Polish-Ukrainian commission to establish cooperation between enterprises of our countries. According to Denys Shmyhal, this commission will prepare recommendations on the format of the Ukrainian-Polish joint venture for the manufacture of weapons and military equipment.
“This will take our defense and military cooperation to a new level and allow us to create modern types of defense weapons,” said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal said that among the signed documents is, in particular, the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Poland.
