As of mid-August, Ukraine has increased the volumes of handover of Ukrainian grain cargoes by rail since the beginning of the month at all border crossings, except for the direction of Hungary.

The largest increase over the said period was recorded in the average daily rate of cargo handover in the direction of Romania — by 42.8 wagons/day compared with the average daily figure for July, to 44.7 wagons/day.

Handover to Poland increased by 30.8 wagons/day, to 44.4 wagons/day; to Slovakia — by 10 wagons/day, to 26.9 wagons/day.

At the same time, the decrease in the average daily handover of wagons to Hungary in August is estimated at 15.3 wagons/day, to 23.6 wagons/day.

Thus, against the background of limited seaborne export capacity, rail routes across the western borders demonstrate an intensification of Ukrainian grain shipments, primarily in the direction of Romania and Poland.
