Doing business
On march 3, experts of the Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency (DIA) took part in the event «B2B Online: Dnipro – Istanbul Presentation of Mutual Economic Opportunities». The meeting was organized by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Dnipro and Istanbul with the support of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Istanbul.
«The existing system of chambers of commerce and industry creates the necessary tools for the functioning of business and the further solution of joint tasks of both countries. As part of this process, the enterprises of Ukraine and Turkey, which interact with each other, are the main driver of the further development of relations between partner countries» – said Vitaly Zhmurenko, President of the Dnipropetrovsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
As of now, the countries are actively cooperating in the fields of tourism and recreation, metallurgy, agriculture and the food industry.
Munir Ustun, a member of the Executive Council of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: «Turkish companies have implemented 184 projects in Ukraine in the amount of$6 billion, and the total investment from the partner country is approximately $3 billion. This fact perfectly demonstrates the interest and high level of confidence in the Ukrainian market. It is also worth mentioning that in 2019 about 1.5 million Ukrainian tourists visited Turkey».
«Ukraine is an important strategic partner and investment attractive environment with significant potential for further cooperation», said Sofa Gyomdeniz, member of the Turkish-Ukrainian Business Council for Foreign Economic Relations of Turkey (DEIK) and representative of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Turkey.
Dnipropetrovsk region, as one of the leading ones, plays an important role in the partnership between Ukraine and Turkey. A significant part of the region’s export/import is made up of ferrous metallurgy products, as well as food and chemical products.
During the meeting, Valentyna Zatyshniak, director of the DIA, pitched the current state of economic relations between the region and Turkey and the main results of their partnership.
«The volume of foreign trade over the past year reached $566.8 million. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 127 enterprises carried out export operations with Turkey, and 538 were engaged in imports. Among the main ones are ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, DniproAzot, ATB, Eva, Interpipe and others. During the period from 2016 to 2020 the volume of imports of the Dnipropetrovsk region from Turkey more than doubled, reaching $240 million. At the moment, one of the largest Turkish companies, Limak, is building new metro stations in the city of Dnipro», said Valentyna Zatyshniak, director of the Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency.
For Turkish investors, DIA offers more than 50 projects and proposals in various sectors of the economy, which are displayed on the Investment Map of the region, as well as more than 450 land plots with a total area of about 5,000 hectares for the implementation of business projects.
During the final part of the event, several Ukrainian companies held presentations of their business for Turkish partners.
As a result of the meeting, agreements were reached on further dialogue. Presentations and contacts of representatives of the above companies were distributed among the participants of the event.
