On April 16, 2021, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky paid an official visit to France.
Considering the priority of the French market and the prospects of the partnership, DIA analyzed the foreign economic relations of Dnipropetrovsk region with France over the past year.
The foreign trade turnover of goods between Dnipropetrovsk region and France in 2020 amounted to $141.5 million (6.8% of the total volume of Ukraine). The negative balance was $36.7 million.
Exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to France amounted to $52.4 million (8.8% of Ukraine’s exports) and increased by 35.3% compared to last year.
More than a third of total exports are fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin, exports of which amounted to $17.7 million and increased by 26% compared to last year. The region increased ore and slag exports by 40,000 times, increasing exports to $15.1 million (28.9% of the region’s total exports). Food-industry waste is also in demand among French entrepreneurs, as exports amounted to $7.1 million (13.6%).

In 2020, 58 enterprises from Dnipropetrovsk region carried out export operations to France, the largest of which were “Optimusagro Trade” LLC, PJSC “Central Iron Ore Enrichment Works”, PJSC “Interpipe Nyzhniodniprovskyi Pipe-Rolling Plant”, “SHCHEDRO” LLC, and “OMEGA” LLC.
Imports of goods from France in 2020 amounted to $89.1 million (6% of Ukraine’s imports) and remained almost at the level of last year.
Domestic entrepreneurs are most interested in French pharmaceutical products, whose imports amounted to $24.1 million (27% of the region’s total imports). Also, the region bought soap and detergents, the import of which doubled compared to last year and amounted to $11 million. Nuclear reactors, boilers and machines were bought by local entrepreneurs for $9.4 million.
Compared to last year, imports increased significantly, in particular:
257 companies in the region bought French products. The TOP 5 importers enterprises are the following: “BADM” LLC, PRIVATE ENTERPRISE FIRM “Vladislav”, PJSC “Interpipe Nyzhniodniprovskyi Pipe-Rolling Plant”, LLC FIRM “TRIPLEX”, “STRATERA” LLC.
There are 13 enterprises with French investments in Dnipropetrovsk region, these are agro-industrial enterprises, the most famous of which are: “Molochny Dim” LLC, “MAS SEEDS Ukraine” LLC, “Agro KMR” LLC, “Nadezhda L” LLC and industrial enterprises: “Synergy International” LLC, PJSC “SOFRACHIM”. As of January 1, 2021, $21.3 million of foreign direct investment from France was invested in the region.
