Great Britain is one of the largest donors of military aid to Ukraine. Also, the country continues to support Ukraine’s budget and economy, help restore the energy system and other civilian critical infrastructure that were damaged by Russian airstrikes.
Great Britain, among all countries, since the beginning of the war introduced the most extensive and advanced sanctions packages against the aggressor in order to demonstrate that the actions of the Russian Federation are unacceptable. The country has already imposed sanctions against more than 1,200 Russian individuals and more than 120 legal entities since the invasion.
Through the World Bank project, Great Britain provided $500 mln in aid to Ukraine. Raised funds will be used to reimburse state budget expenditures for social assistance payments to families with children, salaries for employees of state institutions of higher education, and communal services. Also, in 2022, the Government of Great Britain provided Ukraine with more than $1.5 bln to finance the State Budget of Ukraine.
According to the agreement between the government of the United Kingdom and the Secretariat of the Energy Community, signed on November 14, 2022, Great Britain will become a donor to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. The document provides for an initial contribution to the Fund in the amount of £5 mln from the total amount of 10 million.
The United Kingdom became the first European country to provide lethal military aid to Ukraine, and led the movement to support Ukraine for our self-defense, including with anti-tank weapons and tanks.
Since the beginning of the war, Great Britain has sent to Ukraine light anti-tank weapons of the new generation NLAW, Challenger 2 battle tanks, “hundreds” of Brimstone missiles, 120 armored vehicles, including Mastiff patrol cars, “dozens” of heavy UAVs to provide logistical support to isolated forces, air defense systems, including Starstreak missiles, Stormer tracked vehicles as mobile platforms for the Starstreak, more than 200,000 pieces of protective equipment, including helmets, body armor, rangefinders, and medical equipment.
In addition, the United Kingdom has provided special winter equipment for our military, as well as humanitarian aid totaling £16 mln, of which £12 mln has been allocated to the World Food Programme’s response, with a further £4 mln to the International Organization for Migration. These funds will help provide generators, shelter, repair of water mains and mobile medical clinics.
In 2023, Great Britain will allocate £2.3 bln ($2.7 bln) to support Ukraine. Some of them are humanitarian aid, such as generators, some are military equipment, some are military training of the Armed Forces.
Also, Great Britain has expanded training programs for the Ukrainian military and will train military medics and military engineers. In addition, the country has already trained 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers in the United Kingdom and intends to train another 20,000.
The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation remains an important priority of the two countries.
The analysis of export and import transactions of Dnipropetrovsk region with Great Britain also demonstrates a high level of partnership relations, because the specified state is an important trade partner of the region.
According to the results of 2022, the volume of exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $9.76 million, which decreased by 80%. Among the goods that have the greatest demand among British consumers are ferrous metals and their products, seeds and fruits of oil crops, railway equipment, electric machines, etc.
Export operations were carried out by 56 enterprises from Dnipropetrovsk region.
The main exporting companies are enterprises of the metallurgical complex, machine building, processing industry, and agricultural industry.

The import of goods from Great Britain to Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $28.3 million and decreased by 42.8% compared to 2021. Dnipropetrovsk region bought land transport, alcoholic beverages, machines and equipment, pharmaceutical products and other products the most.
Import operations were carried out by 202 importing enterprises.
