Grant competition to support cybersecurity innovations for startups and SMEs

The European Union and the PQ-REACT consortium are inviting applications for an open grant competition to develop, test and deploy innovative solutions in the field of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) that can replace existing cryptographic standards and ensure data protection in the future. The initiative aims to accelerate the transition to post-quantum solutions by involving startups, scientists and technology companies in the creation of practical, energy-efficient and scalable cryptographic tools.

The amount of grant funding within the competition is 162,500 euros. In addition to grant support, participants will have the opportunity to test their developments in real-world pilot projects in four technological areas, which will allow them to adapt their solutions to the market and strengthen their position in the field of digital security:

  • Smart Grid Meters: smart electricity grids with support for post-quantum cryptography.
  • 5G and 6G architectures: implementing hybrid approaches of PQC and QKD in the 5G/6G field.
  • Context Agility Manager (PQC Benchmarking): testing and validation of innovative services and applications based on PQC.
  • Eclipse-Qrisp for PQC: practical testing of solutions using PQC techniques on HPC or quantum computers using C++/Python/Qrisp tools.

For whom?

The competition is open to consortia (individual applications are not accepted) consisting of 2 or a maximum of 3 partners, of which at least one is an SME and one is a technical supplier, from among:

  • startups and SMEs;
  • universities and research centers (one application per research group);
  • non-governmental organizations or foundations;
  • non-profit organizations with expertise in post-quantum cryptography.

All consortium members must be legally registered in EU countries or countries associated with the Horizon Europe program.
