Dnipropetrovsk region is the leader of the goods export / import in Ukraine.

The foreign trade turnover of goods with world’s countries for the first quarter of 2019 was $ 3.3 billion and had a surplus of $ 688.4 million. The export-import coverage ratio is 1.5.

Goods exports from Dnipropetrovsk region to the world’s countries in the 1st quarter of 2019 amounted to $ 2.0 billion, which is almost the same as in the corresponding period of the last year. More than 16% of Ukraine’s export operations were carried out by companies in Dnipropetrovsk region, which provides the region a leading position in export among the Ukraine’s regions.

Most of all the region exported ferrous metals and products from it, in amount of $1144.9 million (57% of total export), ore was exported in amount of $ 476.4 million (23.7%), fats and oils were exported in amount of $ 65, 2 million (3.2%).

In the first quarter of 2019, the export value of products increased significantly in the following positions:

  • fish and crustaceans – by 11.8 times ($ 206.2 thousand);
  • inorganic chemical products – by5.6 times ($ 14.4 million);
  • Pharmaceutical products – 2.5 times ($ 305.6 thousand).

According to some positions, goods exports  has decreased significantly compared to the corresponding period of the previous year:

  • milk and dairy products; birds’ eggs; natural honey – by 80.4% ($ 720 thousand);
  • edible fruits and nuts – by 93.7% ($ 261.3 thousand);
  • organic chemical compounds – by 60.2% ($ 464.7 thousand);
  • raw hides – by 87% ($ 115.8 thousand);
  • cardboard and paper – by 56.6% ($ 5.8 million).

Poland became the leader among world’s consumers of Ukrainian goods. Export to this country, although declined by 10.9% compared to the first quarter of 2018 in amount of $170.6 million. The second place among the world’s consumers in the region took Egypt, export to which increased by 25.6% compared to the corresponding period of the last year in amount of $ 147.3 million. China is on the third place among consumers of the region’s products, export of which amounted to $ 140 million, and increased by 33.4%.

The supply of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to the following countries has considerably increased:

  • Australia – by 12.5 times ($ 1.7 million);
  • Turkmenistan – by 11.5 times ($ 5.4 million);
  • Indonesia – by 7.5 times ($ 68.9 million);
  • Ethiopia – export of goods increased fourfold and amounted to $ 147.3 million.

Goods imports to Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 9.8% compared to the previous year and amounted to $ 1.3 billion, which is 9.5% of the Ukrainian rate.

Dnipropetrovsk region purchased the most:

  • mineral fuels ($ 342.7 million), the import of which remained at the level of the corresponding period of the last year and accounted to one third of the total value of region’s import;
  • machinery and equipment ($ 192.0 million), import increased by 50 and amounted to 14.5% of the total value of the region’s import;
  • ferrous metals and products of them amounted to $ 168.0 million, the import of which also increased by 26.4% in amount of 12.7% of the total value of the region’s import;
  • polymer materials ($ 100.7 million), import of which increased by 12.5% and accounted to 7.6% of the total value of the region’s import;
  • pharmaceutical products ($ 81.8 million), import of which increased by 10% and accounted to 6.7% of the total value of the region’s import.

There was a significant increase in value of the deliveries the following import trade items to the Dnipropetrovsk region market from the world’s countries:

  • milk and dairy products; birds’ eggs; natural honey – $ 6.1 million, increased by 2 times;
  • fertilizers – $ 8.3 million, increased by 2.2 times;
  • leather goods – $ 3.6 million, increased by 2.3 times.

But according to some positions there was a decrease in import value of goods to region’s market:

  • Grain crops – by 52.7% ($ 2.5 million);
  • footwear – by 36.9% ($ 4.7 million);
  • railway locomotives – by 70.8% ($ 2.2 million);
  • furniture – by 51.5% ($ 7.0 million).

Russian Federation is the leader among the world’s countries in goods imports to Dnipropetrovsk region, its import remained at the level of the first quarter of 2018 and amounted to $ 330.3 million. China is the second largest importer of goods, it increased by 34.7% in comparison with a corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to $ 224.5 million. Germany is on the third place among global importers, imports increased by 16.6% in amount of 88.1 million.

TOP 5 countries of the world, which significantly increased the value of products supply to the market of Dnipropetrovsk region:

  • Australia – by355 times, ($ 15.5 million);
  • Egypt – by 5.6 times, ($ 3.99 million);
  • Uzbekistan – by 3.5 times, ($ 3.5 million);
  • Georgia – by 3.4 times, ($ 7.1 million);
  • Azerbaijan – by 2.3 times, ($ 2.3 million).

Foreign trade operations were conducted with partners from 132 countries of the world.
