$190 million for Ukraine: World Bank and Japan support infrastructure restoration

The project aims to help Ukraine improve the resilience of the national transport network, modernize infrastructure, and restore bridges.

The loan is provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) under the ADVANCE Ukraine trust fund, which delivers necessary loan support to Ukraine and is supported by the Government of Japan. The funds will be directed toward supporting the road sector.

The DRIVE project includes:

  • preserving the national transport network (design, implementation, and supervision of construction works aimed at maintaining selected sections of national roads in proper operational condition, including through emergency maintenance, major road repairs, and bridge recovery);
  • reforming the national road and road transport systems, and carrying out periodic maintenance of the state transport network;
  • as well as technical assistance and project management in support of the national transport network.

“I am grateful to the World Bank and the Government of Japan for their continued support of Ukraine during wartime. The funds will help support the liquidity of the State Budget and ensure the operation of critical transport infrastructure. The DRIVE project will contribute to increasing the resilience of the road network, which is a key element for economic recovery and safe connectivity in regions affected by hostilities,” said Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko.
