Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency keeps introducing about the level of Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk region cooperation with other countries amid the unprovoked military aggression by the russian federation. For now, we propose an overview of the assistance provided by Albania and the foreign trade volume figures, which is derived from DIABASE data.
Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion to Ukraine, the Republic of Albania has consistently demonstrated support for Ukrainians at the international level. Despite limited resources, this Balkan country has actively joined the coalition of states that provide humanitarian, military and political assistance to Ukraine. Albania has not only made strong statements in support of sovereignty of Ukraine, but has also taken concrete steps from transferring equipment to participating in strategic summits.
On January 21, 2025, Ukraine and Albania signed the agreement on cooperation and long-term support covering key areas such as security and defense, political cooperation, humanitarian aid and interaction in the event of future aggression. In particular, the agreement notes that Albania has already been providing military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and will continue its support.
The Republic of Albania has joined the Fighter Jet Coalition, an international initiative aimed at providing Ukraine with F-16 Fighting Falcon and training personnel. Its contribution is to organize English language courses for Ukrainian pilots and technicians, which is a necessary step before aviation training. Albania provides training infrastructure and support within the framework of partnership with NATO countries.
Tirana is also providing military aid to Ukraine. In 2024–2025 it transferred at least 22 M1224 MaxxPro armored personnel carriers, 82 mm mortar shells and medical vehicles. In addition, Albania is developing its own defense industry and plans to produce weapons for allies.
In February 2024, Albania organized the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit (in the Ukraine-Western Balkans format) in Tirana, which was attended by regional leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The main focus was on strengthening military and political support for Ukraine, European integration and regional security. The countries of the region declared their readiness for further supplies of weapons and humanitarian aid. The summit was a significant step in uniting the Balkan countries around support for Ukraine.
In November 2024, Albania made a voluntary financial contribution of €30,000 in support of the Council of Europe’s plan “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction for Ukraine” (2023–2026).
In 2024, Ukraine and Albania significantly strengthened their foreign economic cooperation, with bilateral trade increasing by 12% compared to 2023. Albanian companies are most interested in importing Ukrainian agricultural products: fats and vegetable oils, grains, meat and milk products. In turn, Ukrainian companies purchase Albanian electrical machinery, ferrous metal products, vegetables, nuts and edible fruits.
The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation also continues to be an important priority for Dnipropetrovsk region. Despite the small volume of foreign trade with the Republic of Albania, this country is a promising commercial partner for the region.
Albanian companies mainly purchase glass and its products, meat and edible by-products, machinery and equipment. The volume of exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $244.5 thousand and increased by 28% compared to 2023.
Three enterprises in Dnipropetrovsk region exported their products to the Albanian market. These are processing industry companies.
Imports of goods from Albania to Dnipropetrovsk region decreased by 25% compared to 2023 and amounted to $890.1 thousand. Ten importing companies in the region purchased the most Albanian goods, namely: ferrous metals, electrical machinery, vegetables, edible fruits and nuts and others.
