Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency keeps introducing about the level of Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk region cooperation with other countries amid the unprovoked military aggression by the russian federation. For now, we propose an overview of the assistance provided by the Kingdom of Belgium and the foreign trade volume figures, which is derived from DIABASE data.
Belgium has consistently supported Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion. This applies to defense, political, and humanitarian aid. The Kingdom is among the top 20 largest donors to Ukraine per capita. Since the beginning of russian aggression, Belgium has provided military, humanitarian, and reconstruction assistance worth over €2.2 billion.
In addition, Belgium supports the European Union’s sanctions policy against russia and participates in a number of international initiatives. It is an active participant in the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM) and the NATO Security Assistance and Training Program for Ukraine (NSATU). Belgium plays an important role in training Ukrainian F-16 fighter pilots, crews of future minehunters, and demining specialists.
The Kingdom is also directing more than €1.7 billion in proceeds from frozen russian assets in Euroclear to support Ukraine, acting as the EU’s key financial hub in this initiative.
In 2025, Belgium will provide Ukraine with €1 billion in military aid, of which €645 million will come from Belgian manufacturers. The new aid package includes the supply of about 100 armored ambulances and Unimog transport vehicles. Belgium will also transfer five unmanned naval vessels, other types of drones, helmets, medical equipment, portable UAV detection systems, night vision goggles, and protective clothing against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, more than 16,000 weapons and artillery pieces, 20 modernized Cerber anti-aircraft systems, and a Leopard battle tank with an upgraded turret will be supplied for testing.
Belgium is investing in the training of Ukrainian F-16 maintenance technicians within the coalition, together with the domestic defense industry. In addition, the Belgian authorities are supporting the launch of 70 mm rocket production in Ukraine in cooperation with domestic enterprises. The relevant software is also being provided.
In June 2025, a Tripartite-class minesweeper (formerly the Belgian Narcis, renamed Mariupol) was transferred to the Ukrainian Navy, which is already involved in ensuring the security of the Ukrainian coast.
Belgium will also provide €150 million in financial assistance, which will be used to modernize energy infrastructure, renovate medical facilities, and prepare for the winter period. Priority measures include the transfer of 212 generators for educational institutions, mobile boiler rooms for hospitals and utilities, and the repair of medical infrastructure facilities.
In March 2025, as part of its cooperation with the UNDP, Belgium donated 16 medical vehicles worth a total of approximately €850,000 to various regions, including Dnipropetrovsk region.
The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation also remains an important priority for both countries. An analysis of the export and import operations of Dnipropetrovsk region with the Kingdom of Belgium demonstrates a high level of partnership, as this country is an important trading partner of the region.
Belgian companies are most interested in mineral fuels, ferrous metal products, fats and vegetable oils, seeds and fruits of oil crops, etc. The volume of exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $25.4 million and increased by 21.5% compared to 2023.
About 40 enterprises in Dnipropetrovsk region exported their products to the Belgian market, including enterprises in the mining and metallurgical complex, processing industry, and agro-industrial complex.

Imports of goods from Belgium to Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 6.6% compared to 2023 and amounted to $46.5 million.
More than 130 importers in the region purchased Belgian goods, namely: medicines, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cocoa and cocoa products, crude oil and distillation products, plastics, polymer materials, and others.
