The Republic of Indonesia has provided significant assistance and opposed the violation of the principles of international law since the beginning of the full-scale war. Official Jakarta supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Indonesia will help to establish peace in Ukraine as a state that respects the UN Charter, the principles of international law and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The Indonesian president became the first Asian leader who has visited Ukraine since February 24. During the visit, the Indonesian president and his wife handed over humanitarian aid, including necessary medicines, medical supplies and consumables. The Indonesian leader assured that his country will continue to support the Ukrainian medical system and provide humanitarian aid.
The Republic of Indonesia is ready to join the restoration of the Ukrainian medical infrastructure destroyed by missiles and shells of the Russian occupants. In particular, it is about an investment of $5 million, which can be used to restore Ukrainian medical facilities.
Ukraine and Indonesia agreed on a visa-free regime – abolishing visa requirements for short-term stays. The respective agreement was signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both states. According to the new agreement, Ukraine and the Republic of Indonesia will establish mutual visa-free travel regime for all categories of citizens on a permanent basis.
The development of cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Indonesia in the cultural and humanitarian sphere is one of the important components of the overall spectrum of bilateral relations. Educational cooperation is mainly carried out within the framework of interaction of higher educational institutions of Ukraine and Indonesia based on the relevant cooperation agreements.
Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Indonesia in Ukraine Torang Pakpahan and President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gennadiy Chyzhykov discussed enhancing cooperation between the business communities of the countries. During the meeting, they agreed to hold a series of webinars: Ukraine-Indonesia: opportunities for business cooperation.
The Republic of Indonesia is chairing the G20 this year. The G20 Summit will take place on November 15-16 in Bali. Indonesian President Widodo has personally invited Volodymyr Zelensky to participate. Now there is intrigue concerning the Indonesian leader’s agreement to limit Putin’s participation in the event.
Indonesia also continues to be the major trade partner of Ukraine in Southeast Asia. Ukraine exports crops (74.3%), ferrous metals (22%), sugar and confectionery (1.3%) and flour and cereal products (0.7%). Imports palm oil (52%), ores, slag and ash (8.3%), electrical machinery (6.6%).
Analysis of export and import operations of Dnipropetrovsk region with Indonesia also demonstrates a high level of partnership, because this state is an important trade partner of the region.
According to the results of 2021, the volume of goods exports from Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $32.09 million (4% of the volume of Ukraine to Indonesia). Among the goods most in demand with Indonesian consumers are ferrous metals and ferrous metal products, grain crops, products of flour and cereals industry, etc.
Export operations were carried out by 19 companies from Dnipropetrovsk region.
The main exporting companies are enterprises of the metallurgical complex, agro-industrial complex and processing industry.

Imports of goods from Indonesia to Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $60.39 million (14% of Ukraine’s imports from Indonesia) and doubled compared to 2020. Dnipropetrovsk region bought mostly fats and vegetable oils, electrical machinery, paper, cardboard and others.
Import operations were carried out by 79 importer enterprises.
