Czech Republic and Dnipropetrovsk region – recovery projects and investments in a common future

The development of friendly relations and the formation of promising areas of partnership with Dnipropetrovsk region have always been among the priorities for the Czech Republic.

On November 2, Mr. Ladislav Horak, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine, who is responsible for cooperation with Dnipropetrovsk region, visited the region.

Here he held a meeting with the management of the Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency DIA to outline the main directions of the region’s recovery and areas of bilateral cooperation. At the moment, 20 Czech companies are active in the region, which have invested $11.9 million in the regional economy. These companies specialize in construction, services and industry. Among them there are well-known “Škoda transportation” and “Sweetondale”, which are successfully developing in the region.

Such a positive case of development of a foreign company in the domestic environment encourages searching for new opportunities and points of contact between business and authorities of both sides.

Valentyna Zatyshniak, Director of DIA, presented to the Czech side investment projects and facilities aimed at the restoration and strengthening of the region as a hub of security in the South-East: heat supply, water supply and drainage, provision of healthcare institutions with necessary equipment and other proposals.

Additionally, from the Agency’s portfolio were proposed projects from the business of the region: creation of innovative production of ecological biodegradable packaging, construction of a complex for storage, sorting and packaging of fruit and vegetable products, etc.

The Czech side paid special attention to the key priorities of investment in Dnipropetrovsk region, which Mr. Horak discussed with the Agency representatives.

Firstly, the region has real potential to become a place for titanium mining and production of titanium products. This creates ideal conditions for investors who want to participate in the privatization and development of this industry.

Also, the production of float glass in the city of Vilnohirsk offers great opportunities for the development of this industry, because even today Ukraine does not produce this vital material for the construction sector on its own.

Actually building materials, which are and will be especially relevant after the end of the war: there are proposed projects for the production of thermal facades and reinforced concrete products in the cities of Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol, as well as in the village of Mezhova.

The city of Dnipro has all chances to become a major center of production of rolled steel with polymer coating, which is an important step for further production of corrugated board, highly demanded by both domestic and foreign construction companies.

These are just a few detailed examples of projects that have been proposed. Dnipropetrovsk region is also ready to create with investors hydrogen production from renewable sources, storage centers for fruit and vegetable products, production of agricultural machinery, trolleybuses, prosthetic enterprises, plants for efficient household waste management and much more.

All of the above directions open up avenues for successful cooperation with the region, providing investors with an opportunity to become the engine of the large-scale process of restoration and development of Dnipropetrovsk region.

At the regional level, the Czech Republic was determined to support Dnipropetrovsk region. This year alone, the region was visited by the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel, Tomáš Kopečný, authorized representative of the Government of the Czech Republic for the reconstruction of Ukraine, and a parliamentary delegation headed by Pavel Fischer, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Czech Parliament. In July, for the first time since the beginning of the war, an international business forum was held in the region with the participation of Czech business delegation and scientific circles. Thanks to this event, scientific partnerships were formed, which helped to obtain relevant grants.

The following Czech support programs are currently active in Ukraine:

  • «Aid for trade» – Ukraine (AfTU) – established to help Ukraine repair the damage caused by the war by involving Czech companies;
  • «Exports to rebuild Ukraine» – analyzes the production capabilities of Czech companies and their interest in supplying products and technologies to Ukraine after the end of the war.

The Czech Republic sees significant potential in the region for further development of bilateral relations and investment cooperation. It is planned to open a representative office of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Dnipropetrovsk region already in spring.
