In January-September 2023, the European Union reduced imports of flat products from Ukraine by 22.7% compared to the same period in 2022 – to 597.22 thousand tons. This is evidenced by Eurostat data.
Over the past 9 months, the largest volume of imported flat hot-rolled products was carbon steel (HS 7208) – 462.03 thousand tons, which is 23.5% less than in January-September 2022. These products account for more than 77% of the total imports of Ukrainian flat products to the EU.
The company also supplied 112.8 thousand tons (+42.2% y/y) of cold-rolled flat products (HS 7209) and 22.3 thousand tons (-70.3% y/y) of coated flat products (HS 7210) to the European market.
Poland is the main consumer of flat products from Ukraine. Over 9 months, 239.8 thousand tons of hot-rolled flat products were shipped to the Polish market, down 17.2% y/y. Polish consumers also imported 39.6 thousand tons (+29.2% y/y) of Ukrainian cold-rolled products and 16.3 thousand tons (-72.6% y/y) of coated flat products.
In September 2023, European consumers imported 110.9 thousand tons of flat rolled products from Ukraine, which is 29.2% more compared to August, and 2.6 times more by September 2022, in particular:
During the month, the main part of the products was imported to Poland, Bulgaria, Portugal and Italy.
In January-September 2023 Ukraine shipped for export 785.4 thousand tons of flat rolled products for $547.4 million. Revenue from the sale of products abroad decreased by 56.1% compared to the same period last year, and export volumes decreased by 46.7% y/y.
