European Union LIFE 2023 Calls for proposals: Ukrainian organisations invited to apply

A budget of 611 million euro is available for the LIFE Programme 2023 Calls for project proposals, launched by the European Commission.

The LIFE Programme is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action running since 1992. Ukraine joined the Programme in June 2022.

Under LIFE 2023, the EU plans to provide grants for the implementation of project activities in the spheres of nature conservation, environmental protection, climate action, and clean energy transition projects.

While Ukrainian organisations are eligible for various calls under the LIFE Programme 2023, three projects are targeting Ukraine specifically:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directive and Natura 2000 in Ukraine and Moldova, on the basis of their current Emerald network of sites under the Bern Convention
  • Phoenix: Project for a holistic orientation towards environmental new infrastructure in Ukrainian Cities – waste
  • Phoenix: Project for a holistic orientation towards environmental new infrastructure in Ukrainian Cities – Water
