Humanitarian and political support to Ukraine from Thailand

Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency keeps introducing about the level of Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk region cooperation with other countries amid the unprovoked military aggression by the russian federation. For now, we propose an overview of the assistance provided by Thailand and the foreign trade volume figures, which is derived from DIABASE data.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion of russian federation  to Ukraine, the Kingdom of Thailand has been providing support focused primarily on humanitarian and diplomatic aspects. Although Thailand is not involved in military aid to Ukraine, its position is consistent with the principles of international law, in particular respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of countries.

One of the key areas of support is humanitarian aid. Between 2022 and 2025, Thailand made a series of financial contributions through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom Thailand, the Thai Red Cross Society and international organisations, including UNICEF and UN humanitarian funds. The total amount of humanitarian aid declared by Thailand to Ukraine amounted to about 23 million Thai baht (approximately $650–700 thsd.). The funds were used to support the civilian population, children, internally displaced persons and to provide basic humanitarian needs in frontline and affected regions.

In 2025, Thailand continued to provide humanitarian aid, announcing further tranches of financial assistance to Ukraine. The Thai government publicly emphasised that such assistance is a contribution to reducing the humanitarian impact of the war and supporting international efforts to protect the civilian population. The assistance is implemented through reliable international and national humanitarian organisations, which guarantees its proper use.

At the diplomatic level, Thailand has consistently supported Ukraine within multilateral formats. The country voted in the UN General Assembly for resolutions condemning Russian aggression and confirming the need to comply with the UN Charter. Thailand has publicly stated that the use of force to resolve international conflicts is unacceptable and has noted that the importance of peaceful settlement based on international law.

At the same time, Thailand holds a balanced foreign policy position, avoiding direct military involvement and weapons supply, which is in line with the traditional security policy of the country. This approach does not reduce the humanitarian and political significance of the support that Thailand provides to Ukraine as a responsible member of the international community.

Since the beginning of full-scale invasion of russia to Ukraine, the Kingdom of Thailand has taken a number of measures to support Ukraine:

  • In 2022, the Ukrainian diaspora and the Ukrainian Embassy in Bangkok organized a march and flash mob called #StandWithUkraine to protest against russian aggression. Participants raised flags in the sky, sang the Ukrainian national anthem and called attention to the war.
  • In August 2023, the Ukrainian community in Thailand, with the support of the Embassy, organized an event called ‘Ukraine for Thais’. The aim was to promote Ukraine among Thais, to tell them about Ukrainian culture and current problems.
  • In 2025, a diplomatic event was held in Bangkok, where more than 30 ambassadors and diplomats from various countries based in Thailand gathered to show their solidarity with Ukraine.
