Investments in beekeeping and value chain creation

The challenges of the war open up new opportunities for the recovery and development of the beekeeping industry through the creation of modern production chains and the introduction of innovative solutions.

One such example is the company founded by Andrii Horbonos, a sole proprietor in the Dnipropetrovsk region. It specializes in the packaging of natural honey and the implementation of the latest approaches in the industry. The company operates under the trademark “SpravdiMed” and aims not only to provide consumers with a quality product, but also to preserve and restore beekeeping in Ukraine.

In addition to its commercial activities, the company actively supports beekeepers: part of its profits is used to restore bee swarms, and cooperation with farmers helps to preserve honey-growing areas. All processes comply with environmental standards, which guarantees high quality honey. One of the company’s innovative activities was the launch in 2024 of the production of small quantities of unique packaging for honey (called “ Kaplia Medu”) and other liquid food products, according to a patented technology. This packaging has a significant export potential and can be used not only for honey, but also for medicines, sauces, jams and other products. In addition, it is a convenient addition to daily rations for the military and has no analogues in Ukraine.

The company’s core business is focused on purchasing honey from beekeepers, packaging it in glass and plastic containers, labeling and packaging products. Currently, the company produces up to 5 tons of finished product per year and is actively working on expanding its sales markets and marketing strategies to popularize Ukrainian honey.

To develop the company, Andrii Mykolaiovych initiated a large-scale investment project aimed at creating value chains and expanding production. The project includes:

  • purchase of a modern blending line and honey packaging with a capacity of 300 tons per year
  • lease of production facilities;
  • hiring 10 employees at the initial stage of work.

The project requires an investment of USD 82 thousand. The main mechanisms of cooperation with investors are the creation of a joint venture, attracting direct investment, or loan financing.

Beekeeping is not only an important sector of the Ukrainian economy but also part of the national culture. The “Kraplia Medu” project demonstrates that even small businesses can make a significant contribution to the development of the industry. Supporting beekeepers, creating a quality product for the domestic and foreign markets, and introducing innovations are the steps that will help Ukrainian beekeeping recover and take an even stronger position in the world.
