Investments in the creation of a titanium production full cycle

The military actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine affected the development of the titanium industry in Ukraine, in particular, the mining of ores containing titanium and the production of titanium products.

Ukraine has 20% of the recorded world reserves of titanium ores. The volume of balance and off-balance sheet reserves of titanium ores was 81.15 mln cubic meters. The export volume of ores containing titanium decreased by 41.8% to 322.1 thousand tons in 2022. The turnover of titanium exporters decreased by 19.6%, to $130.1 mln. In addition, the sanctions policy and the return to state ownership of titanium assets of the aggressor country and the privatization of state assets form a redistribution of the market.

The opportunities for business in this sector are great in terms of increasing the stability of the world system and the global supply of these resources, not only within the EU, but also at the level of global supplies.

Dnipropetrovsk region has enterprises both for the extraction of titanium raw materials and the production of titanium products. Potential investors are offered to privatize 2 deposits from JSC “United Mining and Chemical Company”, which is a unique enterprise that is the basis of the domestic titanium industry and a key element of a potential full cycle of titanium production. In particular, the Malyshevske deposit, which is located in the city of Vilnohirsk, Dnipropetrovsk region, is being developed by the Vilnohirsk Mining and Metallurgical Combine Branch.

JSC “United Mining and Chemical Company” develops titanium-zirconium deposits and produces rutile, ilmenite and zircon concentrates, as well as beneficiation of the corresponding concentrates. The company’s branches mine and beneficiate titanium ores in Ukraine and are among the world’s largest producers of these minerals.

JSC “United Mining and Chemical Company” is actively negotiating the sale of products to Western partners and has already signed a direct agreement to supply 80,000 tons of ilmenite concentrate to the American The Chemours. The company also plans to enrich ilmenite concentrate by the end of the current year at the level of 18,000 tons per month. The company’s balance reserves are 4.2 thousand tons of ilmenite, 243 thousand tons of rutile and 127 thousand tons of zircon.
