Israel continues to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to Ukraine

Israel is taking a cautious, but gradually more active position in the context of helping Ukraine in its war with russia. At the beginning of the conflict, the country remained neutral, trying to balance its strategic interests in the region (especially its relations with russia, which was present in Syria) and international pressure. However, Israel has recently started providing more humanitarian aid to Ukraine and is considering expanding its support. The country has condemned russia’s aggression on international platforms, including the UN.

Israel has provided significant medical support to Ukraine, accepting hundreds of Ukrainian patients for treatment and rehabilitation in its hospitals and centers. Patients with severe injuries sustained during the hostilities, including limb and eye injuries and burns, were transported to leading medical institutions in Israel, such as Sheba Medical Center, Hadassah Medical Center, Rambam Hospital and others. Israel also accepted Ukrainian children with cancer and cardiovascular diseases for treatment. This assistance became one of the most important areas of humanitarian cooperation between the countries during the war. The Israel medical system, known for its high level of professionalism and modern technology, has become a symbol of hope for many Ukrainians in difficult times. This gesture emphasizes Israel’s solidarity with Ukraine and readiness to help in crisis situations.

Israel citizens, in particular those from Ukraine, actively support Ukraine through various charitable and volunteer initiatives, such as:

  • The Israel friends of Ukraine is the largest volunteer non-profit pro-Ukrainian organization in Israel, which has been cooperating with Ukrainian partners for over 8 years, providing humanitarian aid and support to victims of the conflict.
  • The Ukrainian-Israel medical volunteer mission FRIDA Ukraine, which provides emergency and routine medical care to vulnerable categories of Ukrainian civilians, including children, people with disabilities and lonely elderly people affected by the hostilities and occupation.
  • Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Israel Agency for International Development (MASHAV) has been providing unprecedented humanitarian aid to Ukraine, demonstrating solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

At the same time, other Israel volunteers provide medical assistance to Ukrainians. For example, a group of Israel medical volunteers arrived in Ukraine to provide assistance to war victims, share experiences, and conduct telemedicine consultations with Israel hospitals.

In addition to the creation of field hospitals by the Israeli side to treat Ukrainian soldiers in Israel hospitals, the country continues to provide a lot of humanitarian aid. In 2023, Israel additionally donated more than $2.69 million worth of medical aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
