In 2025, the Kametstal Steel Plant once again confirmed its leading position among the steel enterprises of the Metinvest Group in terms of the number of new product ranges developed. Of the 11 new types of metal products launched by the company during the year, seven were developed and implemented by the team at this enterpriseю.
The steelmakers focused on the current demands of Ukrainian and European consumers, expanding the range of continuously cast billets (CCB) by four items and the range of popular rolled products by three more. A significant achievement of the steelmakers of the converter shop was the development of four new steel grades: 10U1, 20U, 26G2TR, and S355NL-1N. They are distinguished by increased requirements for chemical composition, primarily in terms of sulfur and phosphorus content.
The implementation of the program required complex technological solutions. Specialists focused on cast iron desulfurization, optimization of converter charging with scrap metal, selection of lime and slag thinners, as well as determining the optimal duration of off-unit steel treatment at the ladle furnace.
The casting of new steel grades into continuously cast billets with a cross-section of 335×400 mm was mastered at continuous casting machine No. 2, where the reconstruction of electrical equipment was completed in 2024. This made it possible to stabilize the casting speed, increase the accuracy of billet cutting, and reduce steel losses. The semi-finished products are intended for the production of round rolled products and the subsequent manufacture of seamless pipes for critical applications.
The rolling mill team also offered three new types of rolled products, including 8-32 mm diameter rebar for the Polish and Romanian markets. After certification in accordance with the building codes of these countries in 2025, more than 100,000 tons of B500SP class rebar were shipped to Poland. In addition, the ball mill has mastered the production of 100 mm diameter grinding balls with increased wear resistance for the company’s mining and processing plants.
It should be noted that this year, despite logistical difficulties and energy instability, Kametstal has implemented its most ambitious capital repair program since the start of the full-scale war. In particular, blast furnace No. 9 and MBLZ-1 were renovated.
