Poland has been providing strong support to Ukraine and Ukrainians since the first moments of Russian aggression and continues to do so. In the third year of the full-scale war, the Republic of Poland has been supporting Ukraine’s military efforts, as well as providing humanitarian and economic assistance to ensure that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine remains a strategic failure. It also continues to work closely with its allies and partners to support Ukraine’s efforts to repel Russia’s invasion and win the war.
The total Polish aid amounted to 3.2% of the country’s GDP (96.35 billion zlotys, or approximately €22.6 billion), which is the highest in the world.
Over the two years of Russian aggression against Ukraine, Poland has handed over 44 aid packages totaling almost €9 billion to Ukraine.
Poland has joined the G7 declaration on mutual long-term commitments to Ukraine, and Polish companies will participate in Ukraine’s reconstruction.
In 2024, Poland focused on the most urgent needs related to educational and medical infrastructure, as well as support for the country’s modernization – strengthening Ukrainian self-government and reforms that prepare it for EU membership.
The support also covered issues such as fuel supplies and wartime communications. Half of the Starlink satellite Internet systems supplied to Ukraine (including subscriptions) were purchased by Polish institutions.
Poland transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, among other things, more than three hundred tanks, 72 Krab howitzers – which amounted to 30% of the Polish army’s resources. Also, 14 fighter jets, helicopters, air defense systems and ammunition were transferred. The Republic of Poland was one of the first countries to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with new types of military equipment, thus dispelling fears or reluctance of other countries to support Ukraine.
The Polish army itself or together with its allies has trained 22,000 Ukrainian soldiers, which is 30% of the Ukrainian military trained under the European initiative.
Polish Humanitarian Action is a charitable organization that helps Ukrainians survive the hardships of war. It regularly organizes material assistance for IDPs and those who were unable to leave their homes. It delivers food and hygiene products, provides psychological and financial support, and repairs private homes and institutions. In winter, it provides fuel, stoves, generators and warm blankets. The Polish humanitarian action operates not only in the areas where the fighting is taking place, but also in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The Polish Government has donated modern equipment to one of the military hospitals in Dnipropetrovsk region. The hospital received generators, ultrasound and ECG machines, operating tables, cardiac monitors, ventilators, orthopedic boards, and medical tactical kits to ensure the provision of quality and timely medical care to the military. With the new equipment, the hospital’s doctors will be able to save even more lives.
Dnipropetrovsk region and the Polish Voivodeship of Lower Silesia are long-term partners who actively cooperate in the humanitarian and cultural spheres, exchange scientific achievements and achievements in the field of local self-government. Currently, 19 Polish companies operate in the Dnipropetrovsk region, having invested $4.7 million in the region’s economy. Poland is one of the main foreign trade partners of the region, ranking 1st among exporters and 3rd among importers in the world.
According to the results of 2023, the volume of exports of goods from the Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $1.1 billion and decreased by almost 30% compared to 2022. Polish companies buy ferrous metals and products from them, ores, slag, fats and vegetable oil, etc.
320 companies in Dnipropetrovsk region exported their products to the Polish market, including mining and metallurgical enterprises, food and processing companies.
Imports of goods from Poland to Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 16% compared to 2022 and amounted to $363.95 million.
The region’s 667 importers bought milk and dairy products, oil and oil products, essential oils, plastics and polymeric materials, etc.
Import operations were mainly carried out by metallurgical, food, and processing companies and trading companies.
