Doing business
For the second year of the Russian Federation’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, the Republic of Slovenia has been providing us with comprehensive assistance: humanitarian, financial, and military. Slovenia contributes to the political and material support of Ukraine from the EU and NATO, so that Ukraine can effectively defend its territories, and also supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state. Ukraine has the support of Slovenia regarding the future status of a candidate for EU membership and support in the perspective of NATO membership.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, Slovenia has provided €4.3 million in humanitarian aid and one million euros to finance the “Grain for Ukraine” humanitarian initiative. This is the largest humanitarian aid to Slovenia in the last decade.
The Republic of Slovenia transferred energy equipment to Ukraine. 9 Slovenian companies united around the call of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Slovenia and sent to Ukraine 88 transformers of various capacities, 3 generators, isolators, voltage switches and other energy equipment.
Slovenia handed over to Ukraine two resuscitation vehicles worth €210,000 class B, equipped according to international standards. In addition, another C-class resuscitation vehicle worth €370,000, equipped with a neonatal transport incubator and other key equipment for transporting premature babies and their mothers, will arrive in Ukraine this year.
Also, through the EU civil protection mechanism, Slovenia will transfer to Ukraine the equipment necessary for civilian demining. The Republic of Slovenia is interested in participating in projects related to the post-war reconstruction and reconstruction of Ukraine, the initiation of a program of psychological rehabilitation of our servicemen, as well as the treatment of wounded Ukrainian defenders in medical and rehabilitation institutions of the Republic of Slovenia. The country has already become the nineteenth member of the EU that has joined the medical assistance to Ukrainians.
In addition, Ukrainian and Slovenian state bodies in the field of cyber security and information protection signed a memorandum of understanding. This is a new stage of the cyber dialogue, which will enable both countries to better defend themselves against attacks by Russian hackers.
Slovenia will continue to provide strong defense, technical, humanitarian and political support to Ukraine as long as it is needed.
The Slovenian Government sent about 30 of its representatives to the EUMAM training mission for the military of Ukraine. Military personnel of the Armed Forces of Slovenia and civilian experts participate in individual, collective and specialized training of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of the member states of the European Union and in the execution of command and staff tasks of the mission.
Slovenia also transfers military aid to the Armed Forces. Ukraine received 35 M80A armored infantry vehicles and 28 M-55S tanks, 16 M2A1 howitzers, 20 HMMWV vehicles (Humves) and many other weapons and equipment. The military and technical assistance of the Republic of Slovenia at the right moment became a real reinforcement of the Armed Forces on the battlefield. The country joined the project of joint procurement of ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On March 20, 2023, at a meeting of the defense ministers of the EU countries, it was agreed to supply Ukraine with one million ammunition over 12 months.
The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation also remains an important priority of the two countries. The analysis of export and import operations of Dnipropetrovsk region with Slovenia demonstrates a high level of partnership relations, because the specified state is an important trading partner of the region.
According to the results of 2022, the volume of exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region, despite the aggressive war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, increased by 19% and amounted to $6.1 million. Among the goods that are in demand among Slovenian consumers are parts for railway locomotives, ferrous metals and products from them, edible fruits and nuts, plastics and polymer materials, etc.
Export operations were carried out by 26 enterprises from Dnipropetrovsk region. The main exporting companies are enterprises of the metallurgical complex, processing industry and machine-building enterprises.

The import of goods from Slovenia to Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $72.7 million and decreased by 16.8% compared to 2021. Dnipropetrovsk region traditionally bought: pharmaceutical products, ferrous metals, various food products, electric machines, various chemical products, etc.
Import operations were carried out by 65 importer enterprises.
