Spain and Dnipropetrovsk region: features of export-import relations

Spain is an important trade and economic partner of Ukraine and it is also a potentially large consumer market for our products.

Considering the priority of the Spanish market and the possibility of promising partnership, the Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency (DIA) has analyzed the foreign economic relations of Dnepropetrovsk region with Spain over the past year.

The total turnover (goods and services) of Dnіpropetrovsk region with Spain in 2018 was amounted to $ 101.1 mln, showing a negative dynamics in comparison with 2017. Export of goods from the region was amounted to $ 53.2 mln. At the same time, import of goods from Spain during the same period was amounted to $ 47.4 mln. The positive trade balance in favor of Dnipropetrovsk region was amounted to $ 5.7 mln. 

The main products exported from the region to Spain are ferrous metals and their products, fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin, grains, and mineral fuels; oil and its distillation products.

In 2018, the exports of new goods from Dnipropetrovsk region such as: nickel and its products, vegetables, inorganic chemistry products, tanning extracts, as well as machines and mechanisms have begun. 

The record increase in exports to Spain over the past year was demonstrated by protein substances (16-fold increase), railway locomotives (13-fold), glass and glassware (9-fold).

Concerning the commodity groups imported by businessmen of Dnipropetrovsk region from Spain among TOP-10 the greatest volume was accounted for: electric cars (4-fold import increased), pharmaceuticals, vegetables processed products, essential oils, and also plastic and polymeric materials.

In 2018, imports of new goods from Spain to Dnipropetrovsk region, such as seeds and fruits of oil plants, live trees and other plants, milk and dairy products, meat and fish products, footwear and live animals have been started. 

The record import increase from Spain over the past year has occurred in the following categories gunpowder and explosives (110 -fold imports increased); furniture (15-fold); copper and its products (7-fold); textile fabric (5-fold); electrical machines (4-fold), etc.
