In the modern world, support of Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression has become not only a moral obligation, but also a trend among international partners. European and global countries are actively involved in the confrontation with russia, demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine in this difficult time for us. Investments in defence industry of Ukraine have become one of the key areas of such support.
Western partners are acting strategically, as Ukraine plays and will continue to play a key security role for the EU. This requires investment in defence industry, which is growing in Ukraine. The decision of the European Union to invest $440 million in the development of Ukraine’s defence sector demonstrates that investment in Ukraine is a trend. Together with additional contributions from countries such as Denmark, Belgium and Romania, Europe is demonstrating its willingness to strengthen defence capabilities in Ukraine. At a time when Ukraine’s army needs a significant amount of weapons and ammunition, EU countries are looking to provide solutions as their own defence industries struggle to fulfil the growing demand.
The investments will be used to produce missiles, drones and other long-range weapons. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has stated that Ukraine plans to produce about 1.5 million drones this year, with the possibility of increasing production to 2.5 million. This is a significant achievement for an industry that was virtually non-existent before the full-scale invasion.
Currently, defence plants produce mortars, shells, military vehicles and UAVs. Defence companies are also producing their own 155mm shells to NATO standards, which are required for artillery systems supplied to Ukraine.
Today, support of Ukraine is becoming a symbol of international unity, and investment in its defence industry is a serious step that underlines the readiness of the international community to help in the fight for freedom and security. The support of the EU and other partners in strengthening Ukraine’s defence industry is of strategic importance not only for the liberation of Ukraine from the occupiers, but also for the future security of Europe.
