The EU allocates €43 million to Ukrzaliznytsia for European railways in Ukraine

According to a press release from Ukrzaliznytsia, the CEF Program Coordinating Committee approved the project application from UZ on July 16.

The project envisages the improvement of the railway network and the development of a 1435 mm gauge to ensure compatibility and increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure.

The total budget of the project is €85.91 million, and the CEF will provide €42.95 million to Ukrzaliznytsia.

Within the framework of the accepted application, it is planned to:

Designing the reconstruction of railway facilities with the introduction of a 1435 mm gauge on the Chop-Lviv section.

Designing the reconstruction of railway facilities with the construction of a 1435 mm gauge and electrification on the Lviv – Chernivtsi – Vadul Siret – State Border section.

Development of a strategy for the reconstruction of the Lviv railway junction, taking into account the prospects for expanding the railway network with a 1435 mm gauge of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in Ukraine.

Design and construction of a 1435 mm gauge with electrification on the Pavlovo-2/Matevtse-Uzhhorod section.

Electrification of 1435 mm gauge on the Chop-Uzhhorod section.

Also, the costs of conducting an examination of compliance with TSI requirements for the above projects, as well as for the sections Kovel – Yahodyn – State Border and Medyka/Mostyska II – Lviv (Sknyliv) are provided.
