Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency keeps introducing about the level of Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk region cooperation with other countries amid the unprovoked military aggression by the russian federation. For now, we propose an overview of the assistance provided by The Kingdom of Morocco and the foreign trade volume figures, which is derived from DIABASE data.
Morocco supported Ukraine in the war against russia primarily through a combination of international political solidarity and practical economic cooperation. Notably, in 2023, Morocco voted in the UN General Assembly for a resolution calling on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, which was an important signal of support for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Kingdom of Morocco is providing Ukraine with assistance in its war against Russia, becoming the first African country to provide military support, namely spare parts for T-72 tanks, with the assistance of the United States. The country also participated in meetings with partners in the Ramstein format and strengthened its position in international forums, indicating a change in course from neutrality to support for Ukraine.
In May 2023, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited Rabat, which was a significant step. Ukraine began its second African tour in Morocco, calling the country “the gateway to Africa.” This was the first visit by a Ukrainian foreign minister to Morocco since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. The key topics of the talks were strengthening political dialogue and practical economic issues, simplifying trade and working to facilitate travel and visa procedures. Food security was a particularly important focus, as Morocco was seen as a partner and a platform for broader communication between Ukraine and African countries on stable grain supplies.
In June 2025, Ukraine and Morocco signed an agreement on international road transport, which was the first new agreement of this type with an African country in 10 years. This document creates a legal basis for road freight and passenger transport, provides for the exchange of permits and the settlement of transit issues, making it possible to deliver goods between countries “door to door” without unnecessary procedures. This opens up direct access to the Moroccan market for Ukrainian carriers, allows Moroccan transport companies to operate in Europe and Ukraine, and may also become a platform for the development of new logistics routes and the expansion of trade in products between the two countries. In the long term, such transport integration can help reduce logistics costs, increase export and import volumes, and become the foundation for further economic cooperation, attracting private investment in transport infrastructure and related supply chains.
The countries maintained working trade channels, and Morocco continued to be a market for Ukrainian goods that are key to food and industrial resilience. In 2024, exports from Ukraine to Morocco amounted to $160.44 million, with goods critical to food and industrial security forming the list of this:
In 2024, imports from Morocco to Ukraine amounted to $123.53 million, with fertilizers ($54.24 million) being the largest item. For Ukraine, in the context of war and production declines, this is a practically important category that strengthens the agricultural sector and export income.
In general, this cooperation shows that even amid a complex security situation, Ukraine and Morocco maintain pragmatic and mutually beneficial ties from political support on international platforms to trade in critically important goods.
