The Republic of Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine and fully supports Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula and the establishment of a special tribunal for war crimes committed by the country-aggressor russia. Official Chisinau has joined the main group of countries working on the creation of a special tribunal for the crime of russian aggression against Ukraine. The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, said that “thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian military, thanks to the resistance of the civilian populati on, we have peace in Moldova”.
The Republic of Moldova has expelled almost 60 russian diplomats and staff of the embassy in Chisinau, the number of which has been reduced to 25. The decision was taken due to numerous unfriendly actions against Moldova that were not related to the diplomatic mandate, as well as attempts to destabilise the internal situation in the country.
In 2022, Moldova became one of the countries that not only accepted but also provided strong support to Ukrainians fleeing the war. At the end of February, humanitarian, social, medical, psychological, and integration assistance programmes were promptly launched in the country.
Children of refugees from Ukraine in Moldova, regardless of their temporary protection status, receive free medical care. On November 7, 2023, the National Moldovan Health Insurance Company announced that the annual budget for the provision of medical services to children of Ukrainian refugees is 21 million lei (over $1 million). According to the company’s calculations, this money will be enough to provide medical care to approximately 13,500 children. The assistance package includes pre-hospital emergency medical care, primary and emergency inpatient care. The costs of these services are covered by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) through the National Health Insurance Company under a partnership agreement in 2023-2024.
The Government of Moldova provided humanitarian assistance to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine to eliminate the consequences of the technogenic disaster that occurred as a result of an act of ecocide by the russian federation – the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP. In particular, the humanitarian aid includes: 2 pump stations, 7 plastic and 5 inflatable boats, 161 pairs of rubber boots, a motor pump, food, etc.
Ukraine and Moldova signed the Protocol on Joint Border Control at the Kuchurhan-Novosavitska railway checkpoint. This significantly facilitates Moldovan-Ukrainian trade, halves the duration of all procedures, minimises queues, and saves time and money.
Ukraine has also started negotiations with Moldova and Romania to create a “green corridor” between the Reni (Ukraine) – Giurgiulesti (Moldova) – Galati (Romania) checkpoints to speed up the movement of goods and exports of Ukrainian agricultural products. Due to this decision, Ukraine will be able to reduce the number of stops for trucks and thus speed up control. Globally, this solution will help to address the issue of comprehensive infrastructure development on the Ukraine-Moldova-Romania border. Cooperation between Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova provides a significant boost to business, infrastructure, and job creation.
Moldova remains an important commercial partner of Dnipropetrovsk region. The level of partnership relations is evidenced by the bilateral analysis of foreign affairs.
Moldovan enterprises are most interested in ferrous metals and products made thereof, plastics and polymeric materials, seeds and oilseeds, meat and edible offal, etc. The volume of goods exports from Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $99.7 million and increased by 6.4% compared to 2021.
290 enterprises in Dnipropetrovsk region exported their products to the Moldovan market, including metallurgical, food and processing companies.

In turn, 55 importing companies in the region bought Moldovan goods most of all, namely: alcoholic beverages, ferrous metals, seeds and fruits of oilseeds, fats and vegetable oils, and others. Imports of goods from Moldova to Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 13.2% to $23.8 million.
