Ukraine has joined the EU countries that have an approved plan for implementing the Open Science principles

The Government has endorsed a Resolution “On Approval of the National Plan regarding Open Science”.

The document is another step on the path of Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area (ERA). The implementation of the document will ensure the implementation of the Agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, on the other, on Ukraine’s participation in the Framework Program for Research and Innovation “Horizon Europe” and the Euratom Research and Training Program (2021 – 2025), complementary to the Framework Program for Research and Innovation “Horizon Europe”. Article 6 of the Agreement defines the need to support open science practices in accordance with the rules of the Horizon Europe and Euratom programs. The implementation of the measures of the National Plan will create conditions for the implementation of the agreement by Ukrainian organizations.

From now on, Ukraine has joined the EU countries that have an approved plan for implementing the Open Science principles.

Further implementation of the National Open Science Plan is aimed to provide the following:

  • creating regulatory and legal prerequisites for the shaping of the state policy of Open Science;
  • providing interested parties with open access to devices, tools and other means of obtaining scientific results;
  • ensuring the processing of scientific data taking into account the FAIR principles (a set of principles regarding Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets);
  • acceleration of the circulation of scientific information, providing access to relevant scientific information without any discrimination;
  • creating conditions for more effective use of the results of research and development carried out with the budget funds;
  • ensuring better transparency of the scientific and educational space.
