In 2024, Ukraine became one of the three largest exporters of organic products to the European Union, supplying more than 203,000 tonnes of organic agri-food products.
Today, Ukraine is the largest exporter of organic products to the EU among European countries and has been among the five largest exporters to the EU for seven years.
According to a report by the European Commission, in 2024, the total volume of imports of organic agri-food products to the EU increased by 6.4% to 2.64 million tonnes. ‘This increase reflects a recovery in demand after two years of decline caused by a sharp rise in food prices,’ the document states.
2024 was also a successful year for Ukraine: it rose from fifth to third place in the ranking of organic suppliers to the European Union. Ukraine was second only to Ecuador and China and ranked first in terms of organic grain imports.
Exports from Ukraine increased by 17% compared to 2023 to 203.9 thousand tonnes, driven by growth in oilseeds and soybeans (+23%) and grain (+8%). Sales of fruits and nuts increased by 17.3%. The EU imports fruits and vegetables from Ecuador, oilseeds and soybeans from China, and coffee, tea and spices to a lesser extent.
Ukraine’s share in the EU’s total imports of organic products is 7.7%. These are grains, oilseeds, soybeans, proteins, nuts, fruits, and frozen berries. These are mostly raw materials, in particular for feed production. There are also semi-processed products, such as fruit concentrates.
