Ukraine will intensify trade and economic partnership with the UAE

Expanding economic and investment cooperation, strengthening trade between Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates, imposing sanctions against russia – these issues were raised during the meeting of the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko with the State Minister of International Trade of the UAE Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.

“Our common goal is to expand mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and the UAE in many sectors of the economy, in particular, by concluding a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Attracting investment, implementing joint business projects, and liberalizing trade will ensure the development of bilateral relations and contribute to Ukraine’s recovery. Despite the difficulties caused by the russian aggression, Ukraine continues its economic reforms and strengthens economic ties with partners around the world,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

Ukraine is interested in developing trade and economic cooperation with the UAE. Due to the war, the total trade turnover between the countries in 2022 decreased to USD 293.9 million, of which Ukrainian exports amounted to USD 205.9 million. The liberalization of trade between Ukraine and the UAE will help restore trade volumes, which amounted to USD 1.14 billion in 2021. The largest share of trade between Ukraine and the UAE is accounted for by agricultural (over 50%) and metallurgical (about 30%) products. Ukraine aims to increase the supply of meat and dairy products, eggs, honey, as well as metallurgical products and ferrous metal products to the UAE market.

In addition, the Grain from Ukraine initiative, launched by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will be another opportunity for both countries to cooperate in ensuring food security in the Middle East and Africa.
