Doing business
Experts at the Kyiv School of Economics call the Irish construction materials manufacturer CRH, which owns three cement plants in Ukraine under the CEMARK brand, one of the most promising investors in the Ukrainian construction industry.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the company has already invested $80 million in Ukraine. In 2023, CRH signed a mandate letter with the EBRD to jointly acquire the assets of Italian Buzzi in Ukraine. This deal, estimated at $100 million, is being reviewed by the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).
Another Irish company, Kingspan, plans to invest $300 million in the Cirsha (Freedom) project. They expect a new production campus to start operating in western Ukraine by 2026.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian companies are also actively investing in the construction industry. For example, in 2022, the development company City One Development began construction of a glass plant in the Kyiv region. The declared cost of the City One Development project is €100 million. The company also announced its intention to build another plant by 2025.
The total investment in the production of recycled materials at the three plants is $500 million. The authors of the study note that this may not be enough, as part of the amount depends on the AMCU’s decision.
