Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency keeps introducing about the level of Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk region cooperation with other countries amid the unprovoked military aggression by the russian federation. For now, we propose an overview of the assistance provided by The Kingdom of the Sweden and the foreign trade volume figures, which is derived from DIABASE data.
Sweden is one of Ukraine’s most consistent partner countries. Its assistance combines technological advancement, political firmness and humanitarian concern. For the fourth year in a row, the country continues to actively support Ukraine in its fight against the russian aggression. The assistance covered military, financial, humanitarian and political spheres.
Sweden’s total military and civilian support to Ukraine amounts to $3.4 billion, of which $2.3 billion is military aid, approximately $675 million is development and financial assistance, $171 million is humanitarian aid, $72.2 million is for recovery support, and $30 million is dedicated to supporting reforms.
Military assistance
The Kingdom of Sweden provided several large military aid packages in 2024-2025. One of them (early 2024) was the largest in the country’s history and amounted to $1.6 billion:
The Swedish instructors helped to train the Ukrainian servicemen within the framework of the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM).
Sweden supports several international coalitions involved in supplying material and technical assistance to Ukraine:
Demining Capability Coalition will receive over $10.4 million for the procurement of mine detection equipment, vehicles, and protective gear;
Drone Coalition – over $31.4 million for the purchase of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs);
Maritime Capability Coalition – over $5.2 million for the training of Ukrainian sailors as part of the Intercharge Operation;
The Swedish government has made a decision to provide an additional contribution of over 1 billion SEK (more than $104 million) within the framework of the so-called Danish Model – a procurement program for the needs of Ukraine’s defense industry.
An additional 418 million SEK (over $43.7 million) will be allocated for the purchase of materials to strengthen the Ukrainian Ground Forces, including armored vehicles.
Sweden is also contributing to ammunition procurement initiatives, with over $57.5 million allocated for the Czech initiative and around $57 million for the Estonian one.
Additionally, Stockholm will allocate over 1 billion SEK (more than $104 million) specifically for the purchase of air defense systems and long-range drones for Ukraine.
Financial and humanitarian assistance
The Kingdom of Sweden is one of the largest donors to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which helps Ukraine to rebuild the energy infrastructure destroyed during the war.
This Scandinavian country has contributed over $43 million through the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to provide critical energy equipment in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and other regions, helping ensure heat and electricity for more than 2.5 million people. Additionally, over $45 million has been donated to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which supports the purchase of gas turbines for electricity and heat generation, assisting Ukraine in addressing its urgent energy needs.
In March 2025, Sweden announced its largest ever civil assistance package to Ukraine, amounting to 1.4 billion SEK (over $137 million). This package includes support for the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure, demining, medical personnel training, energy sector support, war veteran assistance, and more.
Sweden has also provided medical equipment and supplies through humanitarian organizations such as the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the UNICEF, and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). At the same time, Sweden has funded projects for the reconstruction and equipping of medical facilities, including the supply of generators to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in hospitals.
Political Support
Sweden provides significant political support to Ukraine. It consistently advocates for Ukraine’s interests on the international stage, particularly within the European Union and the United Nations. Sweden actively supports Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, including its accession to the EU and NATO. Furthermore, the country participates in the “International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children”, who were unlawfully taken to Russia. Sweden is also a member of the Crimean Platform and supports President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula.
The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation remains an important priority for both countries. An analysis of export and import operations between the Dnipropetrovsk region and Sweden shows a high level of partnership, as Sweden is a key trading partner for the region.

As of 2024, the volume of goods exported from Dnipropetrovsk region to the Kingdom of Sweden amounted to $4.6 million and increased by 43.8% compared to 2023. The goods that are in demand among Swedish consumers are ferrous metal products, parts for railway locomotives, furniture, edible fruits and nuts, etc.
Export operations were carried out by about 30 companies from Dnipropetrovsk region. The main exporting companies are metallurgical, engineering, processing, and agricultural enterprises.

Imports of goods from Sweden to Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $50.5 million and decreased by 1.5% compared to 2023. Traditionally, Dnipropetrovsk region purchased pharmaceuticals, ferrous metals, fats and vegetable oils, textiles, and other goods.
Import operations were carried out by more than 110 importers.
