On June 22, 2021, a working meeting of the Chairman of the Regional Council Mykola Lukashyk with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Ukraine Nguyen Hong Thach and First Secretary of the Embassy Nguyen Kao Kiong took place at Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council. The meeting was joined by Gennady Gufman, First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council, Alim Molodan, Deputy Director of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Investment Agency (DIA) and representatives of regional enterprises.
The participants expressed satisfaction with the state of bilateral relations and emphasized the significant potential of trade and economic cooperation, which tends to grow and creates new preconditions for the start of Vietnamese investments in the economy of Dnipropetrovsk region.
Presenting the economic and investment potential of Dnipropetrovsk region, Alim Molodan drew the participants’ attention to the leading positions of the region in terms of the volume of industrial products sold, foreign direct and capital investments and the labor market. The features of the existing trade and economic cooperation of the Dnipropetrovsk region with Vietnam were also highlighted in detail.
“It should be noted that the activity of trade relations between the region and Vietnam is confirmed by the volume of foreign trade, in 2020 they amounted to $12.12 million and increased by 3.2% compared to 2019. Export operations in 2020 were carried out by 13 enterprises of the region, while import operations were carried out by 78 companies. The largest part of exports covers trade in ferrous metal products (pipes, wire) and grain crops (corn, malt and wheat). Our entrepreneurs are traditionally interested in meat and fish products, plastics and polymer materials, as well as machinery and equipment”, – Alim Molodan said.
In addition, during the meeting, the Vietnamese diplomats were presented with priority areas for the implementation of joint investment projects.
Nguyen Hong Thach proposed to hold the next meeting already in the online format with representatives of the Vietnamese business environment, where entrepreneurs of the region will be able to substantively talk about the start of joint activities.
“I think it is appropriate to hold thematic Days of Culture on the territory of our countries so that the townspeople learn more about the preferences, customs and traditions of our peoples. Also, it will not be superfluous to organize press tours for the media of the Dnipropetrovsk region and Vietnam, during which it will be possible to shoot a number of films and programs about Ukraine, modern Ukrainian society, its potential,” – Mykola Lukashyk noted. Also, the chairman of the regional council invited Mr. Ambassador to visit the Dnipropetrovsk region again together with the Vietnamese business mission and take part in the economic forum, which will be held this fall.
During the meeting, the Vietnamese diplomats were presented with an “Investment Guide”, which highlighted the investment climate of the region, analysis of the economy structure, key features and priority areas for investment, as well as territories for the investment projects implementation.
