Business meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine

On September 14, 2019 at the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, a business meeting of the Chairman of the Regional Council Glib Prygunov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Güldere was held. The meeting was attended by Valentyna Zatyshniak, Director of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Investment Agency (DIA), and Iryna Hrytsai, Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.

The Republic of Turkey is one of the most important trade partners of Ukraine. In trade with Turkey, Ukraine traditionally has one of the greatest surplus. In particular, the average figure for the five previous years was about $ 2 bln. The Republic of Turkey is also among the countries with the highest imports of goods (3%). In recent years, Turkey occupied a leading position in terms of domestic exports. Currently, the governments of two countries are actively working to harmonize the provisions of the Free Trade Area Agreement between Ukraine and Turkey, the main purpose of which is to deepen the liberalization of access to markets for all commodities, both industrial and agricultural.

The Republic of Turkey is among the TOP-3 perspective countries for the development of Ukrainian exports, according to the Export Strategy of Ukraine for 2017-2021. Turkey is one of the most important trade partners of both Ukraine and Dnipropetrovsk. In the last year, Turkey ranked fourth in terms of exports from Dnipropetrovsk region, which is confirmed by surplus of $ 376.1 mln. The share of exports of Dnipropetrovsk region to Turkey is 22.6% of the all-Ukrainian volume, which amounts to $ 532.4 mln. Among the main types of products exported from the region, the largest volume is made by ferrous metals and their products, animal or vegetable fats and oils. It should be noted that Dnipropetrovsk region increased the export of seeds and fruits of oil plants to Turkey in 2018 by almost 2.5 times. There are 32 enterprises registered in the region in which investments are made from Turkey, among them: “Dniprooliia” LLC (production of unrefined vegetable oil and fats, production of refined oils and fats); “Miroplast” LLC (one of the largest producers of PVC profile in Eastern Europe); “UDK” LLC (concrete goods production for construction, manufacturing of products from concrete, gypsum and cement); “AXOR INDUSTRY” LLC (one of the largest factories for the production of window and door fittings in Eastern Europe). As of 2018, the cumulative effect of FDI from Turkey is $ 20.5 mln (6.4% of Ukraine), which indicates a stable investment activity in the region for Turkish partners,” – said Valentyna Zatyshniak, Director of DIA.
