Foreign trade of goods between Dnipropetrovsk region and Qatar increased by 7 times

On April 5, 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi paid an official visit to Qatar. During the visit, issues of food security, export of agricultural products to Qatar and many other issues will be discussed.

Considering the priority of the Qatari market and the possibility of promising partnerships, Dnipropetrovsk Investment Agency has analyzed the foreign economic relations of Dnipropetrovsk region with the country of Qatar for the past year.

The foreign trade turnover between Dnipropetrovsk region and Qatar in 2020 amounted to $50.1 mln (36% of the total volume of Ukraine), which despite the pandemic increased by 7 times. The positive balance amounted to $46.3 mln. Exports exceeded imports by 25.7 times.

Exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to Qatar amounted to $48.2 million (36.6% of Ukraine’s exports) and increased by 7.5 times compared to last year.

The largest share (86%) in the export of goods is taken by ferrous metals. It should be noted that the export of these goods increased by almost 14 times compared to last year and amounted to $41.5 mln. Also, the region exported products made of ferrous metals $3.3 mln (7% of total exports of the region) and increased by 13% compared to last year.

Exports of fats and vegetable oils, although decreased by 15.8%, but remained a popular product for Qatar. Exports amounted to $1.9 mln (4%). Exports of meat and edible offal increased significantly by 3.6 times ($1 mln).

Imports of goods from Qatar in 2020 amounted to $1.9 mln (24.8% of Ukraine’s imports) and increased by 2.6 times compared to last year.

The largest share (96.1%) in imports of goods is taken by plastics and polymeric materials in the amount of to $1.8 mln. Also, the region bought textile materials and synthetic threads in the amount of $72 thousand. Imports of textile materials increased by 2.6 times compared to 2019.
