Greece continues to provide humanitarian, technical and defense assistance to Ukraine

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Greece has provided Ukraine with humanitarian, technical and defense support, and has also joined sanctions against Russia. Greece will continue to support the legitimate right of the Ukrainian people to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as contribute to the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

Greece supported security guarantees for Ukraine. Thus, it became the fourteenth country to join the G7 declaration.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis signed a joint declaration on Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration in Athens. According to the document, Ukraine and Greece confirm their commitment to strengthening joint efforts to support Ukraine’s integration into the Alliance and the implementation of NATO standards.

Greece offers its ports in the Aegean Sea as another corridor for the export of Ukrainian grain in the conditions of the blockade of the Black Sea. The Greek government has already discussed its proposals with partners in the EU and third countries, in particular Britain, regarding the transshipment of part of the Ukrainian grain for export by sea in the Greek ports of Thessaloniki and Alexandropoulos.

The Government of Greece handed over a large batch of military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The aid package included 40 units of BMP-1, as well as ammunition for these combat vehicles. Greece also provided Stinger missiles and launchers, rockets, artillery and small arms ammunition.

Also, Greece will take part in the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters. In this way, Greece joined the aviation coalition, in which some countries provide fighter jets and some train pilots and technical personnel.

To participate in the program for the production of 155-mm projectiles to support Ukraine and replenish EU stocks, the Greek arms production company Hellenic Defense Systems is negotiating with international ammunition manufacturers.

The humanitarian truck weighing about 14 tons, which Greece sent to Ukraine, consisted of various medicines, food products, canned food and clothes.

Regarding the reconstruction and reconstruction of Ukraine, Greece expressed its readiness to participate through the format of public-private partnership in the areas of construction, digitalization, health care, and protection of cultural monuments.

The development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation also remains an important priority of the two countries. Despite the significant decrease in export volumes, the mentioned state is an important trade partner of the region.

The volume of export of goods from the Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $13.7 million and decreased by 2.5 times compared to the pre-war period. Enterprises from Greece are most interested in ferrous metals and their products, cereals, oil seeds and fruits, edible fruits and nuts, etc.

32 enterprises of Dnipropetrovsk region exported their products to the Greek market, these are enterprises of the metallurgical complex, agro-industrial complex, machine-building and processing industries.

The import of goods from Greece to Dnipropetrovsk region increased by 9.3% compared to 2021 and amounted to $18.96 million.

42 importer enterprises of the region mostly bought Greek goods, namely: oil and products of its distillation, pharmaceutical products, edible fruits and nuts, fats and vegetable oils, ready-made grain products, and others.
